Obamacare: Hundreds of thousands of Californians finally get health insurance

The last time John Nunnemacher had health insurance was 15 years ago, when his employer paid for his coverage.

Since then, the freelance graphic artist hasn't been able to afford a policy. Luckily, he didn't get seriously ill or have a bad accident -- which could have left the San Jose man bankrupt.

But as of New Year's Day, the 43-year-old Nunnemacher was once again insured.

Nearly four years after Congress passed a controversial health care law, tens of thousands of Californians like Nunnemacher can now see a doctor without begging for charity care.

Interesting and provocative real life example. But, your girlfriend will still have to come up with the $5k deductible if she wants healthcare, then, at that point, she might not like 0-care. I suspect that the commies will try to pick up the deductibles too, but that would require legislation, really break the bank, and stir up more resentment against the looters.

Your point is well taken, even if the entirety of the Communist purposed Obamacare (ACA) law is repealed, very significant damage to the already grossly mismanaged American health care system is done.

I agree that Washington should be entirely removed from health care other than inspection and disposition of immigrants at the border.

I agree with private health care, the patient paying, and a big dose of "the customer is always right".

It will never be perfect or perfectly fair, but just so very much better it the government is forced to but out.

what bs

$100/mon is all it cost for a single healthy male to get major medical and $500 deductible from state farm in florida.

unless CA was jacking up the rates to collect state taxes, he could have easily bought his own insurance.

i'm sure he had no problem buying his own drugs

obamites especially want new middle class people over 55 (note the interesting age specification) onto MEDCAID because when they die, the govt can claim their humble estate (like maybe a house) to redistribute.

Then why have "obamites" in Washington and Oregon repealed estate recovery for new Expanded Medicaid enrollees?

I don’t think we will move anybody off medicaid, nor do I think that is essential. Yes, it is a bad situation where we have to pour more money into things. But that would just make it a typical welfare program, rather than a program that destroys the liberty of all americans.

Nearly four years after Congress passed a controversial health care law, tens of thousands of Californians like Nunnemacher can now see a doctor without begging for charity care.

Such a good illustration of the problem.

The man is on welfare now. He isn't paying for his own health insurance.

But he did not have to "beg" for "charity". He is getting charity without begging. Government essentially did the begging for him.

It is charity, but the left has worked for decades to remove the "stigma" of taking other people's money. So many people now think they are ENTITLED to have other people pay for their medical care.

Hundreds of thousands sign up, millions have their policies cancelled.

Yep, looks like the whole ‘insure the uninsured’ plan is working like gangbusters. The only ones who can afford to become insured are those who have most of their insurance paid for by the taxpayers.

Correct. Obamacare is all.about getting more and more people on the Govt dole so the elitists can maintain power for years to come.

We are eligible for a subsidy. Obama wants self employed people like us connected to the dole. We will never take it.
