'You got to marry these girls when they are 15 or 16': Phil Robertson wades into new controversy
Daily Mail ^ | 12/31/2013

Unpleasant video footage of reinstated Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson has emerged in which he appears to advise young men to marry underage girls because they are easier to control.

In the 2009 Sportsmen's Ministry talk, Robertson, 67, who began dating his wife when she was 14-years-old, advises his audience, 'You got to marry these girls when they are 15 or 16. They'll pick your ducks' - which is a literal reference to removing dead bird's feathers.

Warming to his stereotypical redneck theme, Robertson, who was suspended from the A&E hit for nine days earlier this month for homophobic comments, tells the gathered crowd that in addition to being young, the girls have to know how to cook and carry a Bible - 'That'll save you a lot of trouble down the road.'

While the speech given in Georgia is recounted in a somewhat tongue-in-cheek manner, in light of Robertson's strong views on traditional family values - protected by the First Amendment - they seem slightly inappropriate.

His advice for a happy marriage, which he claims is a kind of 'river rat counseling', is that all men 'Make sure that she can cook a meal. You need to eat some meals that she cooks, check that out.'

“He was 18 when he started dating his wife who was 14 then, and he married her when she was 16 and he was 20.”

And he would’ve gotten my boot up his ass for trying to pull that on my kids!

But then, I suppose you support the Muslims that do this kind of thing, too, right?

Yeah, the country is full of all kinds of sick bastards nowadays!

“I think its an insensitive and callous thing. No girl is ready at that age. But, these people think its better that way since she doesn’t have the maturity to know better...she can be controlled and manipulated to what the man wants her to be. It’s not real important that she understands her own self and interests. Her own desire for her future. Because at that age not many people know. I’m disgusted at the primitive mind set.”

Quoted for truth!

You are not in a position to pontificate that no girl is ready at that age.
You may assert you yourself were not mature enough at that age, but maturity develops from shouldering responsibility.

Many others are tending younger siblings and changing diapers by eleven. Cooking too.

There are a lot of hardships in life that force people to grow up. They aren’t all able to pretend to be children.

Again, the gist of his remarks are not about marriage per se: they’re about marriage as a means to CONTROL another person!!!

Absolutely horrible and VERY un-Christ-like, and I cannot believe there are people here who support such a view while they condemn Muslims for doing the very same thing!!!

Hypocrites!

15 is a pervert

“Later” in your scenario is 35 or 40, not 20

I was mature at that age, but My father would have beat me if i went on a date at 14. I had my first date at 17 close to 18.

Is it worse for a 15 year old girl to become pregnant by a 15 year old boy?

Happens all the time in today’s world.

A minority of young girls want a child too early, but it’s a significant minority. I’d much rather a 15 year old girl marry a 19 year old with a job than another 15 year old that’s still in school.

Human nature hasn’t changed. The reason society is falling apart is we do things differently now.

Everytime you throw in the red herring of an age difference antithetical to the story presented here we think you are more and more illiterate.

The people celebrating two young people marrying are not by default okay with it were it a young person with an old person.

These two are four years apart.

“You are not in a position to pontificate that no girl is ready at that age.”

And what puts you - a man - in a position to assert that any girl is???

It is a rare person (man or woman) who is mature enough at that age. That is the age to concentrate on school and growing.

preferable to serial partners without commitment? Possibly leading to a real offer to -gasp! - move in!
Having a child - moving out - onto the next partner?

Chilhood being delayed to where 30-somethings are still “kids”??

If this is where he is trying to direct the conversation - I think it would be an interesting one!

My mother married the first Saturday after her 16th birthday. My parents are still married 52 years later.

They gave up the wigs and horses long before they got the girly faces.

>> I suppose it’s a cultural thing. My daughter is 14 and I cannot imagine her being ready to marry.

To All,

No culture can justify the engagement of minors in activity exclusive to adults. I’m not at all pleased with Robertson’s 4-year spread that involved ages less than 17 — a perspective I’ve maintained since my teenage years of over 30 years ago.

I have no problem condemning Robertson’s teenage engagements. Old enough to go to war. Old enough to behave like an adult. And old enough to be treated like one.

So despite my disapproval of his early years, this has no bearing on the important distinction Robertson made between the anus and the vulva. The a-hole ain’t a reproductive organ. And to those that disagree, ESAD.

“These two are four years apart.”

There’s a huge maturity difference in people at 16 & 20 vs. 20 & 24, or 24 & 28. Most marriages at 16-20 end in divorce or poverty FOR THE WOMAN!

“To better understand the effect of women’s early decisions on future life outcomes, this article examines variation over time and across states in the laws that regulate early marriage, school attendance, and child labor. Based on using these laws as instruments for early marriage and high school completion, the results indicate strong negative effects on poverty status that are not due to self selection. The baseline IV estimates imply that women who marry young are 31 percentage points more likely to live in poverty when they are older. Similarly, women who drop out of school are 11 percentage points more likely to be in families below the poverty line.”

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3000061/

But when arguing in favor of marrying them young to control (i.e. USE THEM), remember to keep them barefoot and pregnant, too!

Some of you people really do sicken me!
