Unpleasant video footage of reinstated Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson has emerged in which he appears to advise young men to marry underage girls because they are easier to control.
In the 2009 Sportsmen's Ministry talk, Robertson, 67, who began dating his wife when she was 14-years-old, advises his audience, 'You got to marry these girls when they are 15 or 16. They'll pick your ducks' - which is a literal reference to removing dead bird's feathers.
Warming to his stereotypical redneck theme, Robertson, who was suspended from the A&E hit for nine days earlier this month for homophobic comments, tells the gathered crowd that in addition to being young, the girls have to know how to cook and carry a Bible - 'That'll save you a lot of trouble down the road.'
While the speech given in Georgia is recounted in a somewhat tongue-in-cheek manner, in light of Robertson's strong views on traditional family values - protected by the First Amendment - they seem slightly inappropriate.
His advice for a happy marriage, which he claims is a kind of 'river rat counseling', is that all men 'Make sure that she can cook a meal. You need to eat some meals that she cooks, check that out.'

A surgeon sits down to dinner at the country club with his friends from medical school and announces he is retiring at the end of the year. All are astounded and clamor for his secret to wealth and early retirement.

Thank you and I am aware. But, this is not the 30’s, 40’s or 50’s. And as much as you want it to be like before, it’s not. Life is different now and it is no longer appropriate.

And according to the link in post 7, all of the states with an age higher than 16 will drop to at least 16, if not lower, with parental and/or judicial consent.
I suppose it’s a cultural thing. My daughter is 14 and I cannot imagine her being ready to marry.

A 10 year age difference is a total red herring, Robertson said nothing of the kind - you just made it up.
What he did say is “You need to check with mom and dad about that of course.” Parental consent, got it?
He was 18 when he started dating his wife who was 14 then, and he married her when she was 16 and he was 20. If a 4 year age difference constitutes perversion then half the country is perverted.
I think its an insensitive and callous thing. No girl is ready at that age. But, these people think its better that way since she doesn’t have the maturity to know better...she can be controlled and manipulated to what the man wants her to be. It’s not real important that she understands her own self and interests. Her own desire for her future. Because at that age not many people know. I’m disgusted at the primitive mind set

Yeah, marrying off young teens to older men has always seemed to work out so well for women throughout history! Anyone who would suggest it is an utter and abject moron!!!

I read somewhere that for the happiest and longest-lasting marriage, the age difference between bride and groom should be no more than 5 years.
It is worth pointing out that marrying later, and trying to have kids later, has led to a lot of fertility problems / couples frustrated at their inability to conceive. This should be discussed in this context, even though it will be discouraged by many.
No one is talking about Muslims. But, if it makes you feel better..their pedo behavior is vile.
