Unpleasant video footage of reinstated Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson has emerged in which he appears to advise young men to marry underage girls because they are easier to control.
In the 2009 Sportsmen's Ministry talk, Robertson, 67, who began dating his wife when she was 14-years-old, advises his audience, 'You got to marry these girls when they are 15 or 16. They'll pick your ducks' - which is a literal reference to removing dead bird's feathers.
Warming to his stereotypical redneck theme, Robertson, who was suspended from the A&E hit for nine days earlier this month for homophobic comments, tells the gathered crowd that in addition to being young, the girls have to know how to cook and carry a Bible - 'That'll save you a lot of trouble down the road.'
While the speech given in Georgia is recounted in a somewhat tongue-in-cheek manner, in light of Robertson's strong views on traditional family values - protected by the First Amendment - they seem slightly inappropriate.
His advice for a happy marriage, which he claims is a kind of 'river rat counseling', is that all men 'Make sure that she can cook a meal. You need to eat some meals that she cooks, check that out.'

Which is why we have the present mess actually.
HaZ a happy new year to you and yours as well!
Think back even harder although the age of majority in many states was 21 the age to marry without parental consent could have been as young as 14 which I think was Georgia in the mid 1940's. My sisters friends slipped off to Bryson City, NC where I think it was 16 or 18.
Our culture has changed which some folk are not considering in this. Many young married couples for both their economic and their parents economic benefit lived in the same house in many cases. This was especially true in rural areas. It wasn't considered to be unusual for up to four generations to be under one roof.
Of my aunts who married young did their husbands run roughshod over them? LOL Oh no they could hold their own LOL. The truth is kids being brought up today are not being educated by neither parents nor education system to be family oriented or marriage ready. Most of this started at the onset of The Great Society when government began the encouragement of the decline of the family in everything from raising the kids without dads to kicking grandma and grandpa out of the house to be helped by strangers because By Gosh you had a life to live and By Gosh no one best deprive you of doing your thing.
Fathers were encouraged to bed women outside of their marriage if there even was a marriage and women had it drummed in their heads they needed no man.
Phil Roberston likely at the age 16 could have sheltered and fed his family. Why? Because his families survival as a kid depended on it.
Phil and Kay Robertson faced adversity all their life even in the in youth from what I've read. Yet despite in all including Phil's conduct they worked it out thus the results we see today. Their issues wasn't an age issue it was an issue Phil likely got caught up likely starting in college which could have happened at anytime.
No kids today thanks to many things most are not mentally ready to marry even at age 20. Why? Because they have not been made ready to take on life that's why. They've been taught to take on more education and gosh those darn kids can wait till you get your law degree first and establish yourself under your hyphenated professional name. In the mean time biologically by 15 or so the body says times a wasting.
Yes the man should be a few years older than the girl in most cases especially in cases of marriage of a woman under 18 because mentally girls used to mature faster thus the reason they sought older men to marry. Even in high schools girls used to seek out boys a couple grades higher. That was a natural occurrence.
But wait there's an extra added bonus going on today. Girls are giving up on guys in high school and dating other girls. Well I reckon that's better than marrying that college Dude wanting to control her..../Sarcasm.
Hirsute holography.
Normative, even?
;]
Obviously a lie designed to cover the fact we learned right here on this thread by an expert that such things are myth!
See, listening to that no-talent hack’s horrid devil music warped your mind Sal! ;)
Whoopsie! You’re in trouble now!
You’ve started making sense.
For Shame!
I can’t believe you really prefer personal anecdotes to historical facts and records.
Describing my one of my grandmother’s marriage from a 100 years ago, and mentioning my marriage of 40 years ago, leaves out a mass of people in my family who married at more normal ages.
What are you going to do next, run a thread where we can talk about our gay friends and family and co-workers, so that you can decide that being homosexual is the norm?
Yea I experienced that dating /high school thing in the early 80s when all the girls dated a cople grades up as well. But clearly we were both hallucinating, because as we were instructed earlier and repeatedly, such things are myth.
CLEARLY none of our collective life experiences ever happened.
Very true, and a real shame.
Ansel, pal of mine, what do you think all these anecdotes are BUT a historical record? You just don’t like this particular reality of history.
Yep.
I’m corrupt to the core.
[and now “I’m Eighteen” takes on a whole new dimension, does it not?] ;]
My gramma had 3 kids by the time she was 22 and had one die suddenly when the girl was 12.
She worked the fields with kids in diapers running behind her, one suckling held in her arms and a couple toddling, helping her weed.
That woman is my hero.
~Her~ kids were in their 20s when they married and are a bunch of nuts.
The 50s and 60s...if it feels good...
When I was in middle school, Home Ec was required for the girls and it was about every aspect of home making.
I have no idea if they even teach that class anymore.
BTW, there are a group of eco nuts in Antarctica right now denying that there is ice all around them. The ‘facts’ of our government show that there is none due to global warming. History and observable reality show otherwise.
Notice anything simmilar here?
“[and now Im Eighteen takes on a whole new dimension, does it not?] ;]”
If you love the dead, what does it matter if they are 18? ;)
WHAT?!?!? IT’s an Alice Cooper refrence people!!!!
My only interest is in not letting people continue the myth that 13 and 14 and 15 and 16 was the normal marriage age of the past.
We covered all this intensely back when the Mormons were trying to convince everyone that the young teen wife, was the norm until just recently.
Like wood/metal shop, it has joined the choir invisible in American education AFAIK.
Oh, God...now we’re dealing with straw men arguments and obligatory accusations of stealth liberalism.
Gaaah.
Thread devolution.
