At least 70 journalists were killed on the job around the world in 2013, including 29 who died covering the civil war in Syria and 10 slain in Iraq, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
The dead in Syria included a number of citizen journalists working to document combat in their home cities, broadcasters who worked with media outlets affiliated with either the government or the opposition, and a handful of correspondents for the foreign press, including an Al-Jazeera reporter, Mohamed al-Mesalma, who was shot by a sniper.
Six journalists died in Egypt. Half of those reporters were killed while reporting an Aug. 14 crackdown by Egyptian security forces on demonstrators protesting the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi.

Journalists killed?
Sounds cold, but come on, IMHO, I don’t care about the gawd-darned, self-centered, blow-dried, teleprompter reading, Pulitzer-seeking reporters who never spent a day in the military and are only there for themselves. . .but that’s just me.
Name a prominent one in THIS country.
Trifles! When it gets to 7,000 or 70,000 per year, then I'd say we're making some progress.
90% of journalists admit they are communist or socialist.
Another six or eight percent are just flat-out lying.
I feel sorry for their families. For them, they sold their ethics and journalistic integrity to the Marxist agenda. I have neither sympathy nor respect for them.
They should probably educate themselves on the area before jumping in and thinking everyone is going to welcome them and want to tell their story...Jihadist don’t need the press anymore - they have Internet and Blogs....News personalities is irrelevant at this point!
Hey, they knew the job WAS dangerous when they took it.
You beat me to it by a mile.
For 2014, we need to pick them in advance.
Any killed at their Anchor Desk?
Only 70? Makes it one of the least dangerous jobs of all.
i'll go you one better. pity they missed quite a few.
Sir, I read about 40-50 thousand articles of one sort or another every year. In the past ten years, that would calculate to about a half million articles.
To the best of my knowledge, recollection and belief, from all that reading, I have no discovered ONE “street journalist” that I felt always reported what he/she saw accurately and right down the center every time. On the contrary, every single one I am aware of skews their reporting either ever so slightly to the left or hard over left.
Perhaps you can show me where I am wrong by naming one that is honest and has an unshakeable commitment to the TRUTH!
You know, I was looking at this and wondering if this was supposed to make me cry, or shed some kind of moisture out of my tear ducts for some reason...
Nope...Not even close...
LOL - I didn’t say anything about ‘this country’....
Well I don't see much reason to be thankful for journalist who cover things I'll never see....
Hmmm? I am trying to decide if that means it is a good year or a bad year.
