Nope, my son retired from the USN as a Captain but the USS Alaska was his first boat.
He was a nuclear engineer and then went into the spook side of the Navy and worked with cia,nsa and the rest of the 007 code whackers.
I was a pill roller attached to the Artillery in the Army.
I saw my share of blood and guts and severed limbs, and just when you think it's forgotten and you're over it, you see a movie or hear a song and that night, the demons will visit for a while.
I used to drink with an old WWII vet and he still had the night sweats on occasion.
Only death ends the visits from those days.
Although seriously giving that to God can at least change the meaning of the scene when it comes to mind. At the risk of being seemingly callous, God didn't make this mortal coil to last forever or to be danger free. It's the goof balls who insist that waging war is always a bad thing, who add to these veterans' agony the most. There are valid reasons to fight, and they don't need to be perfect any more than anything else on this mortal coil needs to be perfect. IMHO.
