I would love to see them consider a lawsuit on the basis of religious liberty and free speech, and A&E have to issue a public apology to Phil and the entire family.

I am curious as to their sales over the past two days. Bet they’re through the roof.
Robertson is a kind of modern day version of the real Davy Crockett.
I can see that, but at the same time, there's no guarantee that any deeply religious person will stand and fight for our Founding Principles. I know a lot of very devout liberals who oppose devout conservatives on purely political grounds. Obviously, those liberals are too uninformed to see their government for the oppressive power its become.
What I believe will motivate more Americans to find their courage to fight back, are the innate, God-given aspects of our fundamental nature as free beings.
The Bill of Rights is based upon the self evident truth of our God-given nature. People can't help but feel that something's wrong when that natural state is being violated in some way. The more egregious the violation, the more dissonance it creates within the individual. The violation offends their basic nature, and if severe enough, must be confronted and addressed head on.
I believe this was the very thing that sparked the first American Revolution. The people had a definite sense of injustices being committed against them, and responded accordingly in time. I believe the same thing is happening today, and that we'll witness a similar course of events play out in the near future.
I'm sorry that so many are in such denial about the laws of creation that they deny that what they are doing is a sin; against their god, against creation, against themselves. But I understand how they think. I'm a sinner as well; I'm the child of two alcoholics, both of whom reached their graves well before their granddaughter got to know them. Who each succumbed to the depths of sin, yet eventually one reached salvation, while the other drifted from this life.
I am not a deeply religious person, my faith is constantly challenged and most of the time, I'm the one doing the challenging. But that being said, it is not difficult to examine all the world's religions and find universal truths. Where all of mankind's efforts have revealed time and time again the same truths; love thy neighbor as you love yourself, do onto others as you would have done unto you. Covet not thy neighbor's prosperity, work hard to provide for yourself and your family. Give not to easy temptation of gratification at the expense of your society.
Punish the wicked and celebrate the honest.
It is pathetic how little cable properties can have such a deep effect on society. That a rant by a commentator on CNBC may give birth to the TEA Party, that a statement of beliefs may rally over a million people to support a man's choice in expressing his beliefs against a corporation willing to sacrifice him upon the altar of political correctness.
Pathetic in how low we have let our society drift and sink to such depths. That their humble rallies gather so much steam, mostly because the field is so clear of any who will stand by their beliefs.
I will, from time to time, disagree with others on FreeRepublic. Sometimes, those disagreements will be from my own ignorance, or a poorly stated argument. But where this site excels and all others fail is how much people will listen, try to understand the viewpoints of others, and rationally discuss their viewpoint. And ultimately, accept that others will disagree.

The thing is these people use political pressure to keep alternative POV’s off the air. Where is there a single conservative channel? There aren’t and there will not be unless big changes are made.

Yes, and it’s tiresome. They may look different (diversity anyone ?) but actually they are skillful businessmen, as much as any tycoon in Silicon Valley.
We don’t have free speech in any meaningful sense in that case. Almost all our life takes place within private contracts or can affect those private contracts.

The main point is the Marxists need to see some Christians put their feet and pockets where their words and faith really are. That is the very meaning of “testimony”. Origin. Greek I understand is same as “Martyr”.
So few Christians live lives that truly testify of their words and faith, the world does not believe. The centurion said, “This truly was the Son of God” when he saw Him die - the way he died. The same was repeated in the deaths of early Christians, and throughout the ages.
I have been in the legal world enough (business) to know that their contracts will be airtight prohibiting their going somewhere else with the same show. They’d get sued for everything and more - by much higher paid afforneys too. It would be a long, bloody battle, with no guarantee of a win. Could keep them from another show for 5 or more years.
May God lead them through what’s ahead = and we need to continue to pray for them.....

I’m an attorney and airtight is hard to come by in the real world of contracts. With DD, a great deal hinges on who here is the first true breacher. Effectively firing someone over religious speech not controlled by their performance requirements under the contract is something that could put A&E on the wrong side of that equation. It is effectively adding an extra-contractual condition. You do that, you’re the breacher, because you’re the first one to stop performing under the terms of the contract. That opens the exit to the contract wide open, at least for Phil.
The rest depends on how the contracts were written. If the operating understanding was that they were there as a family, that performance relied in part on them functioning as a family, then taking out the patriarch may make performance substantially impossible, providing yet another exit.
Otherwise, as others here have observed, if the contracts are strictly individual, then an act of religious speech by each of them taking the same position as Phil will put A&E in the position of either breaching the contracts with the others or admitting publicly to having no real basis for the original breach. IOW, if I were DD’s principal attorney, I’d be salivating over this case. High priced lawyers don’t do nearly as much good as having favorable facts. Money can buy effective procedural jockeying, and so can delay the outcome, but IMHO has little effect on the long term results. DD only has to stay in the game to win, and I’m sure they have resources sufficient for that.
As for performing elsewhere as a family, they may not be able to use the exact same brand. But that cannot stop them from earning a living as the principal owner of the underlying product, which is just them being themselves.

I was CEO of a technology corp. for 10 years where most of our contracts were 7 figure negotiated (by moi) with Fortune 500 co’s. and I’ve dealt with hundreds of contracts of all types - and I drafted preliminary employment contracts/non-competes for another tech corp. where a rock-solid non-compete was required and I was a Sr. VP. Then our attorneys took my first draft and got them “legal”. And much of what you pointed out I learned from my attorneys years ago. But I am not an attorney and have never played one on TV! So thanks - I’m sure all the Freepers who read your post will appreciate it.
Do you not think it likely that in spite of solid grounds for breach of contract that A&E is still likely to go to court, and for the case to be messy?
And it will be interesting to see what happens with the other individuals.....
