Mind the Gender Gap in Politics
Wall Street Journal ^ | December 17, 2013 | Gerald F. Seib

The gender gap is alive and well in American politics. Indeed, it may be the defining characteristic of our political system as next year's midterm elections beckon.

We're not talking here just about the well-established pattern in which women are more likely to vote Democratic and men Republican in presidential elections. That's true, but it appears to be only the tip of a gender-gap iceberg.

On virtually all the hot-button issues that bedevil Washington today—guns, health, how to fix the economy, the state of the Obama presidency—the difference between men and women is striking. And it all adds up to a large difference in what men and women prefer in next year's congressional elections.

No, but 49% of women are delighted with Obama’s job performance.

Unwed mom’s love Uncle Sam and think of him as Uncle Sugar.

“It’s free, swipe your EBT!”

(And don’t forget to vote for the ‘Rat.)

“My body, my vote” is a bumper sticker I have seen too often. How selfish. Require 18-year old women to register for Selective Service, that is a start so they learn more issues than their bodies and equal pay.

My dad and I both agree - Women’s suffrage was catastrophic mistake. Prohibition (largely passed to win women’s vote) should have been a hint.

Just don’t tell my wife...

As I posted earlier this week, the successful Virginia strategy was to bet that young women think with and about their reproductive organs as much as do young men. They won that bet.

Gender gap cuts both ways: most men vote Republican.

Gals vote with their emotions: Democrats SAY they want to help the poor, downtrodden etc. etc. Dems pander to gals, going on and on about glass ceilings and nonexistent inequality in the workplace. Women dislike conflict, so opposition to guns and the use of force to deter terrorism puts them with the Dems.

I don't think abortion is the key. The media likes to portray American women as mad to tear their babies’ bodies limb from limb or to scald the defenseless creatures in acid. Yes, there are a few hard eyed baby killers—one thinks of a Boxer , a Sebelius, a Schakowsky, a Michelle—but such unnatural women are rare. Most women love babies and children, despite feminism's 50 year campaign to alter their nurturing nature. Young single men are statistically far more prone to favor abortion than women, by miles if you limit the reference group to married women.
