MSNBC HOSTS RADICAL IDEA: EVERY NON-INCARCERATED ADULT CITIZEN GETS A MONTHLY CHECK FROM THE GOVERNMENT
On Tuesdays edition of MSNBCs The Cycle, co-host Krystal Ball suggested that the United States implement a minimum guaranteed income for every non-incarcerated adult citizen. The enormous entitlement program would eliminate poverty completely, Ball claimed.
Referencing protests occurring across the globe, the MSNBC host made her pitch for a monthly minimum income or a mincome. The free government money would not only solve poverty, but it would not create deincentives to work, she claimed.
The basic concept is simple, she said. Every non-incarcerated adult citizen gets a monthly check from the government. Other safety net programs are jettisoned to pay for the mincome, and poverty is eliminated. Now I know what youre thinking: This is some crazy left-wing utopian idea that only Marxists like Krystal Ball and Pope Francis could possibly support, Ball continued. She then argued that the idea has found support on the right, citing Reasons Matthew Freeney who suggested giving the poor cash.
Ball went on to cite a study about a Canadian town in the 1970s that reportedly implemented a minimum income and not only was poverty eliminated, but the disincentives to work has a minimal effect on productivity.
We tend to think of poverty, homelessness, despair as inevitable but mincome makes you realize in a country as rich as ours we allow those outcomes as a choice. We could decide to eliminate poverty and it wouldnt even take a Christmas miracle, Ball said.

Hey, let’s throw in a new car and golf clubs every year..........gotta do something while we wait for our checks...
Is it the water or global warming...??
Our country's broke. We have to borrow money from China to pay the interest on our debt.
The quicker America collapses, the better.
I think Bush had to beg China to buy bonds.
Baraq just has Ben & Janet create liquidity.
If we print and distribute money to every person on the planet, we will have eliminated WORLD poverty!! Let’s stop thinking small and end poverty for once and all.

Hey, as long as the Fed can QE as much money as is deemed prudent and sufficient, Krystal Ball’s thesis is spot on. The real question then would be: why should anybody ever report to work?
These people have manure for brains. They could grow vegetables up there.
Establishment Republicans are calling up our congressmen asking them to do amnesty. So I am thinking they can pay for this just like the elite Dem’s.
Is this a trick question?
I'll take a shot
LIBERALS???

Not that new an idea, it was brought up in the 1960’s as GAI, Guaranteed Annual Income and was paid for as stock in companies.
For the privilege of being in business you gave the Government, so many thousands of shares of ‘Common Stock’. Those were issued on a lifetime basis at the ‘age of majority’, upon death the shares reverted back to the Government.
A person could buy individual ‘preferred shares’ to augment their income.
Typical socialist garbage that assumes that the Corporations would ‘always’ make money for them to be fleeced of. Sooner or later you run out of ‘Other peoples money’.
If there can be an accompanying Constitutional amendment prohibiting all other social welfare programs and progressive taxation, I would actually favor he idea. “You get what you get and don’t throw a fit.”
From the genius’s that gave us, “If we would just buy our meat from the store, we could stop hunting animals!”
yep...all that money wouldn't go to drugs, booze, lottery tickets, etc. (rolling eyes)
Why should we have to settle with merely eliminating poverty. Let’s make everyone rich. Who doesn’t want to be rich after all?
She is resurrecting the old guaranteed annual income which was popular with the 60s radicals and had its original popularity in the depression. “Every man a king,” yelled Huey Long.
This idea goes back to the ‘30’s. It had such political popularity that FDR had to counter it or face running against a populist who was proposing this. That’s how we ended up with Social Security.
Why screw around with half measures, just give everyone a billion dollars.
that way everyone is rich.
The monthly checks are already going out and we’re already going bankrupt. This is just consolidating them into one check, rearranging the deck chairs.
I always thought “Journalism” cirrula was nothing but a collection of crib courses, so I guess basic econ wasn’t on the list, along with any common sense.
