Louisiana is famous for celebrating Mardi Gras every spring, but it’s also home to worst drivers in the U.S.
Thanks for residents’ failure to buckle up, driving carelessly and racking up tickets, CarInsuranceComparison.com says drivers in the Pelican State are the worst in the country, coming in the number one- spot for those three offenses.
CarInsuranceComparison.com ranked the 10 worst states for drivers, pulling statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the National Motorists Association and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. The five categories for each state’s score are ranked by fatalities rate per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, the failure to obey traffic signals and seat belt laws, drunk driving, tickets and careless driving.

I got a speed camera ticket going through Ridgeland, SC going 87 mph on Route 95. Nice picture, it was me. I told them I wanted a jury trial and they dropped the charges because I knew it was agin’ the law for SC to issue me a ticket not in person. Ph uck em’
I was amazed that drivers in Mss. passed you on the right using the soft shoulder in 2004! Do they still do that?
Can one use Cruise Control set at 7mph over the speed limit in the Boulevard Lane?
The Buckeye drivers will cut one's heart out to get in the cushion space one leaves between the vehicles ahead. Then of course, they will go to the brakes, causing one to have to dump cruise.
The other difference is intelligence. Some states have poorly educated majorities.
Take FL for instance, (please) there is apparently no idea of traffic flow via timed traffic lights, which they have on 4-lane higways with 60 mph speed limits!
A gold medal also to the first American traffic planner who understands the roundabout. Roundabouts speed traffic flow and have a pleasingly darwinian effect on inept drivers. E,G, Could clean up the FL motorist gene pool in about a week!
We have many roundabouts on the N. suburbs of Indianapolis. They work very well.
And are great for skid pad testing my Miata too.
Depends upon where you are. I live in the far suburbs verging on rural. Using a turn signal here gets you a dumbfounded look, and traffic waiting to turn out will just sit there. They don't believe you.
On my commute through parts of three congested cities or towns, the attitude changes, really as soon as multilane surface roads appear. There are the people, mostly women, who regard a turn signal as a magic forcefield that causes traffic to part for them like the Red Sea or something. They start veering over then flip on the signal while blabbing on the phone and glancing in the mirror. They're coming over, by the way. Might as well brake.
Then there are the hotheads, mostly male, territorial, hypercompetitive and just general a-holes who speed up to prevent you from changing lanes, I've had drivers intentionally speed up to keep me from merging, then brake hard to still keep me from even falling in behind.
As the population increases, the drivers seem to get worn down and less prone to aggression after a while. At first they're losing it because everything takes so much longer but then they just give up and ease off.
They drive on the apron or emergency lane all the time in and around Boston.
They do anything and everything. :)

There was a FORD in Lincoln’s future. Perhaps there should be a FORD in Obie’s future, and in Harry’s, and in Nancy’s.
My expierence comes from being stationed at Camp Lejune. I saw it all over eastern NC.
California should be on the list for:
1. Driving in the dark with lights off.
2. Driving in the rain with wipers off.
3. Inability to stay in a single lane for more than 6 feet.
4. Driving <1 foot from your rear bumper.
5. The # of recent undocumented third world immigrants on the road.
Over the years I have done a lot of driving by car over most of the country. Some of that driving recently. On Interstates, on other highways, in cities and towns. I have noticed that some of the worst driving I have observed in that time is drivers in cars that have plates other than the local state plates. New York drivers are, in my certainly no more than anecdotal observations, the worst. Mass and NJ might be tied for 2nd. And also high on the list are the occasional vehicle with DC or Gov’t plates. Seems these ‘liberals’ don’t think the laws apply to them, or else they let go when they get outside their own self-made (via the ballot box) environment.
I am sure there are some professional drivers (truckers) out there who might have better anecdotal observations than mine, based on a whole lot more in the way of observations.
I find it easy to drive in California, including the busy freeways, and in years past I felt similarly about Detroit and Chicago. There is a lot of fast driving, but I have found it to be courteous and controlled.

Speed limits on Interstates are just guidelines. They tell is that if we exceed them by more than 5 or 10 mph we might get a ticket. :)
And btw, I pay particular attention to speed limits in town and abide by them.
I drove from Ohio to LA a few months ago and averaged 65 mph, including stops. (We drove ‘non-stop’ other than refuel and pottie stops, two drivers).
How about Pennsylvania, those in that state are scary behind the wheel.

oops maybe . But traffic signs don’t seem to matter but not being from Philly, those that live there seems to understand the unspoken. and I am from Detroit, speed signs are just suggestions also. Below 70 on the interstates gets you a dirty look from the guy passing you up..
Non advertised secret about seat belt tickets in NC: you can take a $20, hour and a half “safe driver” class and the $250+ fine will be dismissed.
