I perform maintenance at a school district which recently had a construction bond upgrade. We have mountains of burned out compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL) which are suppose to last for 7-10 years, but rarely last more than a few months, and at $8 bucks a pop, it's expensive.

The CFLs contain Uptonite.

And a liberal amount of unicorn dreams.

Sucks eggs.
They’re supposed to be turned on for several minutes before they work, and, those quick on/offs, like the peeing in middle of night bathroom trips, are not good for them...causes them to burn our faster...I guess we’re supposed to have Prius-driving libs come over to our house to pick up our used CFLs...
Anyone posting any websites where we can buy like 12 or 24 60-watter incandescents mailorder? Canadian or other?

I bought a whole bunch and I use them in the cooler darker months like this(for the the warm yellow color), in the warm months I use the new ones.

Just a point of interest to others:
I switched from CFLs to LEDs.
The CFLs gave me bad headaches.
The LEDs give off a lovely white light unlike the Yellow light from CFLs and filament bulbs.

I’ll be switching to LEDs after Christmas.
The old bulbs suck, they use more power than their worth. They’re good if you want to keep chickens warm but that’s about it.

So soon it will be illegal to use American light bulbs we have to use Chinese Light bulbs.

My biggest concern is my dining room where i have a dimmer switch. Florescents don't dim.

The 40 and 60-watt light bulbs sell more than any other light bulbs, but they are being phased out as their incandescent 75 and 100-watt brethren were phased out at the beginning of 2013. Maybe the 40 and 60-watt light bulbs sell more than any other light bulbs because the 75 and 100-watt incandescents have already been outlawed by our oppressive federal government and the CFL's and LEDs are much more expensive.
If you want a clear example of why there isn';t a lot of difference between the democrat party and the republican party when it comes to overbearing, Nanny State, Big Government this inane law is it.
Before BIG BROTHER George Bush signed this outrageous law, we could buy incandescents of all sizes locally at 3 or 4 for $1.00.

I’m switching to whale oil lamps in my home.

I really like the LED’s as well. Now that many manufacturers provide a Kelvin rating, you can get the perfect light spectrum. However, I have only used them in situations to reduce heat from halogens and in my 10 foot ceilings so I do not have to replace every six month. They are still expensive to change out all the 60 watt ceiling fans and light fixtures.

Yep. We had a dollar store close down in town, 1/2 off everything so I bought every incandescent pack they had. I love dimmers in my house, and while I’ve only had ONE dimmable CFL, it didn’t work very well, and died after a year. Perhaps less.
Looking into the dimmable LEDs is frighteningly expensive. I want BRIGHT, and I want a bunch of ‘em. Not happening for a while. I have non-dimmable CFL 100w replacements, and I”m going to have to rely on them to get me through a few years until the LED’s come down in price.
Damn tyrants.
