The guy who takes care of the pond blew out the lines so they don’t freeze. But the heater the previous owners were supposed to leave must have been packed up and taken when they moved. I have to buy a new one.

“I have to buy a new one.” - water heater

Best to do -— VA pond may not freeze, but at least you save your koi if it does.

Heater will keep a hole open.

IIRC, I was told to **never** break a hole in the ice if pond freezes. It damages little koi “eardums” -— or, their “eardrum” equivalents. LOL, consult expert if you want scientific info; just don’t pound the ice to open up a hole.

If pond slightly freezes (with heater), you will be able to see koi under the ice. Depending on how cold water is, sometimes you will be able to see them slowly moving, and other times, they are perfectly still, as if in suspended animation.
