The author worries about his nephews becoming victims. For every genuine case of an innocent black person being killed by law enforcement, there are a thousand cases of black people becoming victims of black criminals.

Only a small fraction of the black population engages in behavior like the knock-out game, but the effect of articles like this is to make white Americans suspect that all black people hate them automatically because they are white. I don't think that was part of what MLK dreamed of in his most famous speech.
