I don't know what Rush said for sure. But I disagree with Rush about unfettered capitalism.

For example, I disagree with the oil broker who buys oil when prices are low and then sells the oil back to consumers when prices are high.

I don’t need to have an opinion of Pope Francis, really. I’m not Catholic. He seems a nice enough fellow. But it is now painfully obvious that he has not even the most rudimentary understanding of economics. It doesn’t bug me... It’s not his job.

Exactly. I am a Catholic and a daily listener to Rush’s show. I listened to his program today and heard most if not all of what he said about the pope’s latest document. No rational person really believes in “unfettered capitalism”. People say so, but they don’t realize that that would I can steal your stuff. Unfettered capitalism is essentially lawlessness. It is about pure power. We have NEVER had unfettered capitalism. We have always had laws governing and protecting ownership and transfer of property to protect rights. That’s clearly NOT unfettered capitalism. Free market? Yeah, to a great extent, but certainly not “unfettered capitalism”.

I offered the link for anyone interested, but I’m not going to jump into the debate on this issue. Limbaugh and Bergoglio are responsible for their own statements and each has a near unfettered ability to defend himself publicly. I readily admit I’m a critic of the Roman Catholic system on just about every front. That said, I’m more interested in Rome’s history and theology than the Bishop of Rome’s economic musings.

It is his job to tell people to think about what they do with their wealth. Thinking about it is not the same thing as having the State confiscate it.

He is also looking from a global perspective (there are Catholics all over the place), which may note some things that might be missed in, say, Silicon Valley.

Francis, in one of the first official acts of his Papacy, facilitated Holy Communion being given to Joe Biden and Nancy Pelozi.

I believe he knew those two were there, and that he should have been more attentive in preventing them, through his aides, from approaching the rail.

It left a sour taste in my mouth to realize that this golden opportunity to checkmate these miscreants, right from the beginning, was missed.

I think it’s difficult for those not participating in capitalism to appreciate its value. We don’t hear sermons that speak to the value of free markets, jobs, and opportunity. The terms required for this insight are simply not part of the lexicon.

Give the word inevitable in the first line a good hard look. If I am buying cheap goods made in China under questionable circumstances, are all the parts of the economic system working fairly? Maybe yes, maybe no—more often than not, I’d bet no. (Which isn’t to say that I am clean on the issue—but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t an issue.)

No apology necessary. I’m Roman Catholic, and it’s been obvious what Bergoglio was from the very beginning. He is to the papacy what Soetoro is to the presidency.

It’s no coincidence that these two men hold these positions at this time in our history.
