As a 78-year-old woman walked down the street in Brooklyn, carrying her purse and bags, a young black male, about 20 years old, punched her in the head as hard as he could and ran away. The man said nothing and didn’t steal a single item.
This is one of the latest instances of “Knockout,” a “game” of evidently increasing popularity. Young people — sometimes female but usually male, predominantly black, in their teens to early 20s, in groups or alone — approach unsuspecting strangers and punch them in the head as hard as possible with the intention to knock them unconscious with a single blow. Sometimes the aggressors will rob the victim, but usually violence itself is the purpose of the attack. Some of the attackers have even recorded videos of their exploits.
At various times and places, the “game” has been called “Knockout,” “Knockout King,” “One-Hitter-Quitter,” “Pick ’Em Out and Knock ’Em Down,” “Knock ’Em and Drop ’Em,” and “Polar-Bear Hunting” (most likely in reference to whites). The attacks are unprovoked and often happen in broad daylight.
They can be deadly.
So far, six fatalities resulting from Knockout have been documented. The first was of an MIT student in 1992, according to an Associated Press report. Yngve Raustein of Norway was approached by a group of teens who asked him what language he was speaking. They then proceeded to sucker-punch him in the face and rob him and his friend. Raustein immediately fell to the ground. When he tried to get up, the assailants stabbed him in the heart. Cambridge police at the time said that these attacks might be perpetrated by just a few kids.
The game was around before 1992, according to a St. Louis man named Askia who spoke with reporters in 2011. He described a similar game, “One-Hitter Quitter” (a name still used today), from the ’80s, when he was growing up. “We’d be out in the club or something and pick a random person and drop him to see if we could knock him out,” Askia said.
Former players have said that they did it for fun. Others speculate that the game is an attempt to demonstrate manhood and earn respect from peers.
After the murder in 1992, further reports of Knockout didn’t emerge until 2011, with the death of 72-year-old Hoan Nguyen. Nguyen, an immigrant from Vietnam, was walking down the street with his wife in St. Louis when an 18-year-old African American charged the couple, striking Hoan Nguyen directly in the face. He died later that day in the hospital. Soon after the Nguyen homicide, John H. Tucker of the Riverfront Times in St. Louis interviewed local youth who confessed to playing Knockout. The kids said it was popular, and one mother revealed that her son had played it as early as two years before the Nguyen incident. Some players were white; most were black.
Such attacks continued in St. Louis throughout that year, with ten known attacks over a 15-month period up to December 2011, including nonfatal attacks on two men, 73 and 51 years old. Reports of attacks began popping up elsewhere, including Illinois, Nevada, and Washington, D.C.
More reports of the game arose over the next two years, including two more deaths in 2012 and another two in 2013. Delfino Mora in Chicago and Colton Gleason in St. Cloud, Minn., were both fatally punched in the face. Mora, who was scavenging for recyclables before being assaulted, was found three hours after the attack on July 10 of this year. Blood was seeping from his nose. He died the next day. Gleason died in the hospital on September 21 within hours after he was attacked. Neither knew his attackers or had provoked the attack.
Two more people — Michael Daniels of Syracuse, N.Y., and Raphael Santiago of Hoboken, N.J. — were killed in May and September of 2013, respectively, in games of Knockout.
Further reports of Knockout have surfaced in the past week, including an assault in San Diego, the first reported on the West Coast. Recently, the attacks have been most prominent in Brooklyn, where eight victims, primarily white Jews, have been randomly targeted by black teens in games of, as New York City police commissioner Ray Kelly called it, “Knockout” and “Polarbearing.”
In all, incidents of “Knockout” have been reported in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Missouri, the District of Columbia, and now California. Most of the victims have been whites and Asians, and attackers tend to target Jews, immigrants, and the elderly in particular. Most of the attackers have been African American.
“This was purely a wanton incident,” said Rita, the daughter of the 78-year-old woman attacked in Brooklyn. “Someone wanted to inflict pain onto someone else, no other purpose.”

I spent 8 years in the infantry and I have spent the vast majority of my life immersed in firearms and the culture that surrounds them. I have studied multiple martial arts systems. Most recently I have been studying a groovy new technique for crushing a man’s trachea. I don’t go anywhere unarmed and I’m always in a combat mindset. When I cross the street, it’s to take up up a better defensive fighting position and to disrupt their attack plan.
I don't know if this behavior ss instigated by them or if it just happens to be a happy happenstance in their plan to destroy America. Either way, it's moving us along to more government crackdowns and martial law for a full takeover.

An American was visiting Beijing, when he got nailed by an inattentive bicyclist. Fortunately, while a bit stunned, neither were seriously injured. But then up walked a cop.
Having witnessed the accident, he promptly issued the bicyclist a traffic ticket. But then he issued one to the American as well. Puzzled, the American asked him why?
“Had you not come to China in the first place, this accident could not have happened. Therefore, you are partly to blame.”
While on the surface this seems outrageous, in reflection, the Chinese cop had a point, a point provided in some martial arts studies.
A “spontaneous” fight is not an easy thing to arrange. Participants must meet at the same place and time, and in such a way that a fighting level of antipathy can be created. If you think about it, there are so many opportunities for a fight to *not* happen that it can lead to the notion that they are *intentional*.
Unless you want a fight, what could have motivated you to be in a bad neighborhood late at night or early in the morning, and appear such an attractive target that those you would fight find attacking you irresistible.

Authors forgot Divyendu Sinha and Abelino Mazeriego, both killed in NJ in 2010. Two other NJ men also killed in recent years, although in one case the killers stole a wallet after and in another the killer had “words” with the victim first. But three to five fatal cases in NJ alone, depending how you count, we’re not talking about only six in the country.

Your advice is generally spot on, but I have a slight problem with the distance involved here. Not long ago, taking a course in self-protection by firearm, we arranged for one of the younger, fit students to charge, from 20 feet, another one who had a fake gun in his holster. We timed it and found that the "assailant" got to the "victim" in one and a half seconds. The victim did not have enough time to draw and point his gun.
So, if one were to call out "Halt"! at the perp while simultaneously drawing his gun I think he would have a better chance of prevailing.
Dodge the charging assailant as you draw your weapon. Really. To cover that much distance that fast makes changing directions at the point of anticipatred impact nearly impossible, so dodging and drawing prevents the knife attacker from getting a stab or even a clean slash into your vitals.

There was a reason for “white flight” and “suburbanization.” There still is.
As a SoCal native and long time resident, from the Watts Riots of 1965 until now, there are very few reasons good enough to venture into the $hithole regions of our sprawling metro areas.

We were additionally instructed to take this step if one does not dodge and the assailant armed with a knife is right in front of him: fall backwards to the ground and shoot the bastard as you fall. It’s the only way you survive under that situation.

I’m guessing common deniminator was that they were gang members and that the white guy was a whigger. First time I’ve heard of any perps being other than black thugs. My comments were meant to be a slam against black people in general; it was aimed at the black thug culture where the knockout kings seem to come from. I know there’s a lot of good black people out there.

“I hate you f—ing white people,” said a black woman in a large group of black men, according to the victim who was beaten up as he and three buddies left a LoDo bar after midnight on Aug. 30. “F—- you, white boys,” the woman added, according to the 25-year-old Westminster victim, who spoke to 7NEWS Friday.
“I seen him pick the little white boy up and throw him through the glass,”
“Why do you hate white people?” the man recalled asking.
“That’s when I got hit. They beat the crap out of me,” he added, saying that 15 to 20 men beat him to the ground. “They just swarmed you,” said the man who curled up on the ground to shield his face.”You basically just had to protect yourself and hope they didn’t kill you.”
The victim, who suffered bruised ribs and a cut head, said he was protected by a padded motorcycle jacket. He asked that his name be withheld for his safety.
Denver, Attacks by Blacks Against Whites Rage On
A couple dozen arrest warrant affidavits unsealed Friday offer chilling insights into the 26 racially-motivated “blitz attacks,” which stretched from July 17 to Nov. 17.
One unidentified suspect told police “that the members of his gang earn status in the gang by beating up ‘white dudes,’” according to court records. He added that the gangs targeted “drunk white guys,” exiting bars and nightclubs in the entertainment district.
The suspects allegedly bragged about knocking out white victims with one punch to the head. Victims lying on the ground were “stomped” and even tossed through glass windows.
