A bitterly divided Senate voted Thursday to ease the confirmation process for most presidential nominees, a momentous and potentially risky step that limits the ability of Republicans to block President Barack Obama's choices for executive-branch and most judicial posts.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) engineered the rules change, over Republican objections, with a complicated parliamentary maneuver that ended up placing new curbs on the use of the filibustera move so controversial that it is often called the "nuclear option."
"The American people believe Congress is broken. The American people believe the Senate is broken It's time to change the Senate before this institution becomes obsolete," Mr. Reid said.
The key vote was 52-48, with all but three Democrats voting for the change and all Republicans opposed. Democratic Sens. Carl Levin of Michigan, Mark Pryor of Arkansas and Joe Manchin of West Virginia broke from their party and voted against changing the rules.

The point of the exercise is to make lifetime appointments to the fed courts hearing cases over federal regulations. Current lineup is 4-D, 4-R, and 3 vacancies. Not a word from lame stream media on why Publicrats don’t approve of the 3 proposed judges.
And this proves it!
The next time there is a Republican president, the Democrats will put the old rules back.

Fixed. Not sarcasm.
Not to worry: The Dems will change it back during the lame session if they lose the Senate majority in any future election.
Wow, the desperation has reached historic levels in the Democrat party. Pitiful
This will bite them in the rear bigtime though, and they will be crying bloody murder on their way to obscurity
President Cruz will have work to do in 2017. Hopefully a conservative Senate will be able to help him along.
The Dems have let the camel stick his nose under the tent. They tried to limit this to courts below the SCOTUS but the point is they changed the rules with a simple majority vote. The GOP can now change the rules when they have the majority.
They will be able to repeal 0bamacare with a simple majority. They will be able to change the rule again to approve conservative justices to the SCOTUS. Just need that simple majority and a non Dem POTUS. 0bamacare may just give us both.
Without the filibuster there isn’t a dime’s worth of difference between the Senate and the House. Why do we need two Houses?
ONLY REMIANING RINO'S in the SENATE from the GOP half of the Gang of 14
The lame duck Senate will change the rules back before they leave office and the new Senators are sworn in.
Huh? Did I miss something, Rush Limbaugh just said at the beginning of his show that the "Nuclear" threat wasn't worth discussing because it was just a distraction to take the media focus off Obamacare and that the democrats had no intention of following through, and even if they did it was a long convoluted process.
It appears that not only did they go "Nuclear" they changed the rules in about 15 minutes....
“The American people believe Congress is broken. The American people believe the Senate is broken It’s time to change the Senate before this institution becomes obsolete,” Mr. Reid said.”...
Finally something I agree with Reid on. Indeed it is time to change the Senate for certain and him along with it. Get rid of the demodummies and Rhino’s in COngress while there at it.
Revolt is coming.
Harry will CHOKE on this when he loses power in about 1 year.
Time to do some house cleaning.
Collins was in on that Gang of 14 stupidity too. So was Mary Mary Landrieu.
Toss out all the demorat bastids.
Republicans going against the Founders is devastating.
So when is the vote to end the two-term limits for Democratic Presidents?
They will rue the day!
