Renisha McBride's Alleged Shooter to Be Charged With Murder

The man accused of shooting 19-year-old Renisha McBride in the face outside his suburban Detroit home will be charged with second degree murder, manslaughter and possession of a firearm during a commission of a felony, the prosecutor said today.

McBride was believed to be seeking help after being involved in a car accident.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy identified the alleged shooter as Theodore Paul Wafer, 54, of Dearborn Heights.

"We do not believe he acted in lawful self defense," Worthy said at the news conference.

Worthy said that Wafer is not yet in custody and will be turning himself today. She said he has been cooperative with police and is expected to be arraigned later today.

Worthy said that witnesses reported that McBride was "bloodied, disoriented and appeared to be confused" after the accident in the early hours of Nov. 2 and left the scene on foot.

"Hours later, her lifeless body was found by the police near the porch" of the suspect, Worthy said. "[She was] found with a very large gunshot wound to her face."

Evidence suggested that she knocked on Wafer's locked screen door and that he opened his front door and was inside the house when he fired a shot through the open door, but a still closed and locked screen door, the prosecutor said.

There was no evidence of forced entry to the home, Worthy said.....

Worthy said her office "obviously" did not feel that the defendant acted in lawful self defense.

McBride's toxicology report released by the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office on Thursday indicated that she had a 0.218 blood alcohol level, which is more than twice the 0.08 legal limit for driving in Michigan.

The report also indicated presence of marijuana in her system and the recommendation for a "confirmatory recheck."

Have Je$$e and Al flown in, yet?

More importantly has Eric Holder organized a lynch mob yet?

I’m surprised at Kim Worthy for charging him like this. She is only caving to pressure. Sad state of affairs. They have been holding rallies, marching literally in the streets, calling for blood, giving out false statements about what happened to the media who puts it all on TV. This was self defense. She came to his door at 4 in the morning. Her blood alcohol was .2 something. I hope the cops dusted for her prints on the door handle. He should have heeded the good advise to drag the body indoors.

"Well, it sounds like he was just a little too ready for the zombie apocalypse."

I'm trying to imagine how I would have responded (I am not a gun owner). I don't remember what time of the night this was, but suppose it was after I had gone to bed and I heard someone kicking and scratching at my door, shouting incoherently, perhaps using vulgar language. I'd be concerned at the least, and probably somewhat alarmed. I look through the window or peephole and see a bloodied, wild-eyed black female, apparently drunk and incoherent.

I figure I have two choices: open the door and see if I can talk to her, or call 911. I THINK I'd call 911, because you don't know if this is a setup, a home invasion, or whatever. Normally a prowler doesn't call attention to their presence by banging on the door and screaming, but - as I said - it could have been a pretext for a home invasion or robbery. But, the fact is that you don't know what's really going on.

From what I've seen so far, shooting her was not the way to go and the homeowner overreacted.

This wasn’t in Detroit.

From the facts I’ve seen, or presumed facts, it will be hard to justify this as self-defense. She was unarmed and was outside the house.

I thought about the same thing.

Thoughts that would run through my mind. Is she bloody because she attacked someone and I’m next? Is she dangerous? Unable to ascertain that, the likelihood, I’d open the door to help her is very low.

But I would call for help, and I would never shoot her through a locked door unless she had a weapon that she was starting to aim at me.

It happened in Dearborn Heights. It’s the Wayne County prosecutor who filed the charges. Wayne Co. covers a lot of territory outside Detroit. I would love to get called to sit on that jury.

“Alleged”? He has admitted that he was holding the shotgun, that it went off, and the shot killed her.

"In the audio of 9-1-1 sending police officers to the scene of McBride's shooting, the dispatcher reportedly described receiving a call from a man who said he shot someone on his porch and then hung up."

"Hours later police found her body . . . "

This is confusing. When he called 911, did he give his name and address, or just report the shooting and hang up? Did he just leave her there on the porch and not make a full report to 911? If so, it does not bode well for him.

Finger off the trigger until ready to shoot is a lesson most people don’t get.

Holding a deadly weapon pointed at someone and your finger on the trigger means just a startled flinch and unintended squeeze of the trigger may be needed to kill.

Irresponsible gun owners make it difficult for everyone;granted irresponsible owners of other devices haven’t brought quite the same societal pressures(unless you count drivers’ licenses and mandatory car insurance).

So he knew enough to call 911 after he shot someone.

Why didn’t he know enough to call 911 before he shot her.

That’s not good —

Dearborn Heights is relatively upscale compared to Detroit.

If I were the defense attorney I wouldn’t want to go to trial on this one. Better to plead no contest to negligent homicide, get a year to 18 months in jail and be out in 9 months plus 5 years probation.

In Michigan you don’t have to retreat but you better not have a door between you and the target when you do shoot.

My mistake, I had the location wrong. Looking at the Wayne County demographics and the 80% black goes to 40%. I still think this guy is going to fall victim to anti-white racism.

My only sympathy for the accused is - he was at home, minding his own business, and the woman was out carousing, smoking pot, drunk driving, crashing her car, leaving the scene of the accident, and drawing him into a situation he never asked for, and now HE’S the criminal. He made a mistake, in my opinion, but this whole thing sucks.

When did he call 9-1-1 ? And evidently that area’s system didn’t automatically show the caller name and address?

If he delayed the call or otherwise impeded the response,he is in for it.

And the poster who said he should have drug the body inside is giving out old and stupid advice. Blood isn’t that easy to remove and any evidence of a hurried wash job of the porch would result in tampering with evidence charge.

My prediction:

The homeowner had better plan to move to a new town when he gets out of jail because he won’t be permitted the legal ownership of guns after this. The lawyer fees will likely consume the equity in his home.

He was in his house, probably woken up by the banging and screaming of a crazy woman, half-asleep and groggy he takes his shotgun to the door and it goes off, accident or not.

I agree with your sentiments

It sounds like he was gripped by unreasonable fear.People in serious car wrecks are often bloodied and disoriented. And if he was awakened from sleep there is the possibility of disorientation. Which is another reason for NOT grabbing a gun until you are fully aware. Now if it should come out that he has been assaulted in the past by black persons that might be a defense.

I guess he COULD use Joe Biden for defense.
