Tables Turned, Victims’ Relatives Get Their Chance at Bulger

Published: November 13, 2013BOSTON — David Wheeler stood in the well of a federal courtroom here Wednesday, gesturing toward James (Whitey) Bulger, the elderly man who was once the overlord of the Boston underworld and who had ordered his father’s murder.
"Shame on you, Mr. Bulger," Mr. Wheeler declared. "For all your notoriety, you are a punk and you don’t even matter anymore. You’ve turned from a government-sponsored assassin to a pile of jailhouse rags."

Bulger managed to double cross the mob, the FBI and as well as the IRA and lived to tell the tale.
Yeah - he was a nasty piece of work. However, without the backing of the FBI bureaucracy he’d be dead long ago. F’n Fibbies backed those murders!
He never double crossed the mob. He never gave the FBI any information that convicted anyone from the North End. Zip Connolly only used his name to get a warrant to wiretap a mob hangout just so he could keep Whitey on the the FBI informant list and keep Whitey from being indicted. Connolly and Morris were both on Whitey’s payroll, fully paid for by Whitey. Zip Connolly double crossed the FBI and the Staties, not Whitey. Whitey did double cross his confederates in the Winter Hill Gang when they all went down over horse race fixing, except him and Flemmi who were FBI informants.
It would be unfair to state that the FBI as an institution backed any of Whitey’s murders. It would be fair to say that FBI agents Zip Connolly, John Morris, and H Paul Rico backed many of Whitey’s murders.
