FAIRVIEW, TN (WSMV) - A picturesque part of Middle Tennessee is the scene of a shocking crime. Someone mutilated then killed a beloved horse, and the owner says the animal died in a tremendous amount of pain.
She's also worried whoever did it will do it again.
The McIlvains have lived outside Fairview for 36 years and say the reason they have stayed is the beautiful front yard pasture for their two Paso Fino horses, Bomber and Falderado.
"Paso Finos are a special breed. They are smart and very close to their rider. They take care of their rider and are very affectionate and want a lot of attention and love," said owner Barbara McIlvain.
But while the family was out of town Friday night, someone killed Bomber and even cut off body parts to keep as trophies.

Very strange story with very little info, to even speculate on what happen is difficult. Was the horse tethered? in a small pen? An answer to those two questions would sure help. It will be hard to convince me that a person or even persons were able to control that horse long enough to inflict that kind of damage. A horse is a very powerful animal and can easily kill a person. When I was a kid one of the hands rode up on a stud and a mare, the stud attacked his horse and when he was knocked off it bit him on the leg shaking him like a rag, then proceeded to bite most of his scalp off. The scalp was saved but he lost the leg.
Here in florida its not uncommon for horses to be killed for the meat. That doesn’t usually involve torture but does sometimes
Oh its still illegal to serve or sell horse meat in the us
Animals are usually a precursor to moving on to human victims - no problem shooting the perp(s) on sight.
Maybe the are hungry horse meat is eaten around the world.
If you like your horse, you should keep it off the hardtop roads. Like Bicycles, they pay no road or gas taxes but expect to be an equal on the roads with cars. If no meat was taken from the horse then it certainly was a crime as it is delicious. Keep your horse off the roads and diaper them.
You really shouldn't drink and post.
What part of my comment offends you?
Wow, good thing if you’re a Horse.
Guess the guy should have gone down to Mexico for a bite rather than torturing and killing the Animal here. Probably couldn’t afford to because of his Obamacare Premiums.
Inhumane People should be treated Inhumanely.
“On Saturday morning, November 9, 2013, a 26-year-old gelding named Bomber was discovered in his Fairview, Tennessee, pasture dead with strange, bloodless excisions of hide from his body 33 miles southwest of Nashville.
“The pasture was monitored by two infrared cameras that are triggered by motion, but there were no unusual frames that night of November 8 to 9.
“However, previously the infrared cameras had captured an unusual glowing beam shining on a second horse in Bomber’s pasture on October 12 and September 19.”
Characteristic mysterious animal mutilation, such as have been going on for many years around the US and in other places throughout the world.
Unexplainable, although many have tried.
your comments don’t offend me, it shows your stupid and just looking for a fight with some freepers...you seem to be the exception to the rule freepers are highly intelligent. Troll, and an ugly one at that.
Gee goat, I simply spoke my thoughts about this whole horse thing and now I’m stupid “and looking for a fight.” You certainly have some kind of imagination and then you also call me a troll! How immature. And then YOU lump yourself in with all the other “highly intelligent” freepers! Get a grip.
