I agree that this will make for an interesting experiment. Will these workers end up getting $15 an hour? Or, will they end up unemployed? Or, will it be some of both, and if so, what percentnage will get $15 an hour, and what percentage will end up unemployed? Only time will tell.

I’ll be curious to see how much fast food prices go up as a result of this.

Prison there with 800 inmates.
Wonder if they are covered also?

Late yesterday it was thought the vote was failing with only a half percent lead and rapidly closing.

Will the experiment be terminated prematurely if it goes disastrous? A year or two is a long time when things get hairy.
To: nascarnation
Well the inmates have never been covered for minimum wage before.

If it is close, the Dems ALWAYS steal it.

Well, it's not like this experiment has FAILED EVERY time it has been tried!

This “experiment” won’t actually tell us anything useful, because of the relatively unique nature of the Seatac economy: (1) The airport isn’t going anywhere, (2) businesses within the airport already have skewed/inflated prices because they have a captive audience/customer base, and (3) this is unlikely to diminish that customer base, for the simple reason that virtually no one chooses where to travel based on the prices of amenities at the destination airport.

It will come in handy for all the laid off IAM union goons from Boeing when they reject the company offer and realize that Boeing in now no longer building anything new in the SEATAC area. But the bitch will be that their Starbucks coffee’s will cost $10 a pop so they will end up having to sleep all day! It’s going to be fun to watch. When I look north to Oregroin and Washington, I realize that as screwed up as California is ( and it is), these two states are California on steroids! I really pity anyone who is old and gets sick in Oregroin, because they are dead ducks unless they move elsewhere.

Is this only for the airport? Or the entire Seattle-Tacoma area? This means that a full time McDonalds job will pay over $30k per year. It also means that a Happy Meal will cost $6-7. Will folks shy away from fast food when it passes $30 for a family of four?

It’s for the city of SeaTac, which includes Sea-Tac airport and . . . not much else.
To: grundle
Can you say bye-bye Boeing.....
To: grundle
Just wait until the SeaTac yuppie puppies go to their favorite Starbucks and order their usual Double Latte Mocha Cappuccino Grande and find its gone from $5 a cup to $10 a cup (a smaller cup) thanks to the $15 per hour “living wage”.
The first thing they'll do is go running to the owner all upset and he says to them: “I'm sorry, but your government dramatically increased my costs of doing business and I'm passing them on to economic illiterates like you.”
To: MasterGunner01
I wonder if it would affect Starbucks — I presume they already pay their workers well above $15

You might be right about Starbucks paying over $15 per hour now. With all the Bachelor’s, Master's, and PhD liberal arts majors working there, they'd be clamoring for high wages — after suitable retraining. These graduates are used to spending other people's money and not earning it. Fortunately, this can be cured with the correct amount of indoctrination for the good comrades.
