Israel and the US lost their voting rights at UNESCO over the Palestinians. The two stopped paying their dues after the Paris-based organization accepted Palestine as a member. See Jerusalem Post coverage. US national security advisor Susan Rice took to Twitter to blame Congress, while the Washington Post explains what the voting loss means for American soft power. According to the NY Times, the US had provided 22 percent of UNESCOs budget.

We stopped paying dues. Did we also stop paying for 22% of their budget?

Well, I’m sure with all the dues they will get from Palestine, UNESCO will be able to continue their activities.

That’s just a start but it saves money that’ll just be used in other Obama projects. The anointed one blames the Tea Party however.

Not sure but that 22% is somewhere around 65 million
dollars...?
There is no such thing as “soft” power, only mush.

Ceasing financial support, in response to unacceptable behavior, IS an exercise of power.
