DALLAS — When the executive director of former President George W. Bush’s public policy institute decided to move on recently, he stopped by for an exit interview. Mr. Bush asked if he had anything in particular he wanted to talk about.
Nothing specific, said James K. Glassman, the departing director.
“O.K.,” Mr. Bush replied, “I want to talk about painting.”
After early self-portraits in the shower and then dozens of paintings of dogs and cats, Mr. Bush, it seems, has now moved on to world leaders. He told Mr. Glassman that he wanted to produce portraits of 19 foreign presidents and prime ministers he worked with during his time in the White House.
Nearly five years after leaving office, the nation’s 43rd president lives a life of self-imposed exile in Texas, more interested in painting than politics, recovering from a heart scare, privately worried about the rise of the Tea Party, golfing with fervor, bicycling with wounded veterans and enjoying a modest revival in public opinion. While Bill Clinton criticizes Republicans on the campaign trail and Dick Cheney chastises the current administration on his book tour, Mr. Bush resolutely stays out of the public debate.

I don't think it's so much that they had so many, but that they never seemed to be able to function without them, and that they had so much contempt for those of us who had to mow our own lawns.
If Bush is so fastidious about keeping his mouth shut, let him keep his mouth shut about politics. But he has to pick and choose for his own spiteful reasons--and trying to force amnesty on the US is one of his spiteful reasons.
And we know how the Bush women LOVE them some abortions! I read about it in precious Laura's autobio.
And people who claim he was such a bad candidate allow much more garbage from liberals. Look at Joe Biden, who is so much smarter than Sarah Palin.

Agreed. I’m a “true” conservative. Just not a moron. Bush was, is, a good man who loves our country and defended it well. Romney was not my first, second or third choice, but Nobama was definitely my last choice. When it was time for choosing, I voted. Millions did not, in a stand for “purity”. We have the mess we have today as a direct, imo, result of our side not voting because the wrong guy got nominated. This was, objectively, a vote for all that has happened since. This will continue to happen. “No more rino’s” equals “bring on the marxists”.
Sickening choices, to be sure, but we can not walk the country back the destructive path it is on in one leap. The marxists have gotten us here incrementally. We will have to go back the same way. Baby steps.
IMO- Bush was nothing but a liberal (R) who saddled us with the Patriot Act.
We now expect to be sold out, and look for it, and value so much the more a Republican who shows a little faithfulness to America, rather than a squad of people who wipe off the Bush toilets everyday.
I wonder if America did not do a lot better with Clinton and an opposition Congress than we did with Bush and a compliant liberal Republicanism...
There would be just as many bannings now for anti romney posts had he won. Even after signing more gun control into law and derailing any questions of repealing the individual mandate is obama/romneycare. Take a look at some of the posts here about romney since the election. Most posters are just pissed at him for losing, with his words and deeds in service of big “do as you’re told” government getting some mention.

I thought what he did was brilliant.
The democrats always in the past ran up the tab leaving responsible behavior to the Republicans who would cut the budget back. The democrats could then be outraged about the curelty. The Republicans were being played like a fiddle.
So Bush knowing that, played a giant game of chicken with them. He didn’t cut their ridiculous programs. Likewise didn’t have to take the brutality from them over cutting the programs.
The wars were expensive but had to be done. The democrats have frittered away those expensive gains and positions.
Now the democrats are blindly livid over the fact that they have to be responsible for cutting a couple teensy programs. Democrats are like spoiled children, they want what they want and they scream and cry if they are held to the standards of adult behavior.
Any Republican who doesn’t want his picture taken with Bush is trying to be popular with the Democrats. Democrats are the Bush haters. As clearly illustrated by Bush’s father, compromise with a democrat will gain one a kick in the teeth. Democrats are unreasonable and there is no point in hoping unreasonable people will perform reasonably.

sheeh I have employed people too and I am just surviving—when I was just coming out of the hospital after a long stay I needed a nanny to care for my two little children, drive me to the doctor and do laundry. I have had people clean. I have had someone cut the grass occasionally, or shovel the walk. Do you hate me? Or am I providing income for someone that freely contracted with me for same?

I agree with you about Jeb though, no thanks. He let Terri Schiavo get tortured to death in his state.
He should have closed the borders on 9/12/01. How can you fight a war and leave our country wide open. He should have nuked the middle east and walked away saving our men from dying for a long war that has no end in site.

Unhinged? I think not. The Bushes never stood up for themselves; they rely on surrogates such as TurdBlossum, Dana Perino, and Nicolle Wallace. They want to remain above the fray, in the classic modus operandi of a patrician.
Jeb is just "third verse, same as the first and second."
