DALLAS When the executive director of former President George W. Bushs public policy institute decided to move on recently, he stopped by for an exit interview. Mr. Bush asked if he had anything in particular he wanted to talk about.
Nothing specific, said James K. Glassman, the departing director.
O.K., Mr. Bush replied, I want to talk about painting.
After early self-portraits in the shower and then dozens of paintings of dogs and cats, Mr. Bush, it seems, has now moved on to world leaders. He told Mr. Glassman that he wanted to produce portraits of 19 foreign presidents and prime ministers he worked with during his time in the White House.
Nearly five years after leaving office, the nations 43rd president lives a life of self-imposed exile in Texas, more interested in painting than politics, recovering from a heart scare, privately worried about the rise of the Tea Party, golfing with fervor, bicycling with wounded veterans and enjoying a modest revival in public opinion. While Bill Clinton criticizes Republicans on the campaign trail and Dick Cheney chastises the current administration on his book tour, Mr. Bush resolutely stays out of the public debate.

Plus the rumors that he plays for the other team.
So you would say a president who:
1. signed the biggest tax increase in US history
2. signed an amnesty
3. put a disaster on the US Supreme Court
4. and cut an ran after a terrorist attack in the middle east
was a failure even if he was very successful in the other half the big things in his terms?
“Normal as we think of it is Old School, our Society has devolved into New School”
People like me, who I suspect this is directed at, are trying our very best to reconcile everything we have ever seen or heard with what we instinctively know is right. I grew up at almost the same time and the same place as that Amy Fischer chick. And yet today I enjoy reading Freerepublic. If you ever want to win another election, there has to be some small appreciation of where I come from.
Exactly. The Gay Card has not yet reach the status of the Race Card. We’re working on it, though.
Careful. You might see some sparks shoot out of ears...:)
Two thumbs up!!
There is something fundamentally wrong with conservatives that blame george bush at least as often as baroque obama.
I would avoid it just because the similarity would repulse me.
Ha! Yeah reality can cause that from time to time.
Not directed at anyone. Just the reality we face in today’s world as I se it.
The Liberal Control over Education, the Entertainment and News Media and now Technology has paid off for them in what I would say is beyond their wildest expectations.
Up is Down, Black is White and Right is Wrong but hey, the Majority of the Electorate doesn’t even care.
Reagan would never have a chance of being Elected in today’s Brave New World.
I chalk it up to cultural differences. Like if I tried posting at “FreeFrenchRepublic” about why I like being able to work 84 hours in 7 days if I want to.
Demographics is Destiny.
Cultural, indeed. Isn’t freefrenchrepublic a porn site?
Wait. I think I read that wrong.
As much as you feel like up is down and black is white, so do I. We may come from different backgrounds but (hopefully) we can agree that what is going on right now, the blackhole Obama is being allowed to drive us into, has to be stopped somehow. I’ll vote for whatever ‘R’ gets picked for me.
GW Bush’s war in Iraq really worked wonders for the Republican Party, leaving it with the loss of the House and insufficient numbers of Senators to block Obamacare, which will be the greatest wealth transfer in the history of the country and an absolute disaster for working people who pay for insurance. I hear lots of criticism from GW Bush and the rest of his family about the Tea Party and conservatives, after all, the people they meet at the country club don’t want association with those of us in the great unwashed and they might get a favorable sentence printed about them in the Times or Post - I haven’t heard a word of criticism from GHW Bush, GW Bush or Jeb regarding the Soviet style health plan.
“Demographics is Destiny.”
Doing my part Sir, birthin’ the babies. All is not lost.
TARP was awful. The banks paid it back, with billions in profit for the Treasury.
Now the auto bailouts will cost tens of billions.......
You’re flipping out over a story in the NYT about a man they spent 8 years smearing.
and seriously, you aren’t very laconic for someone who’s signon is “laconic”.
“Reagan would never have a chance of being Elected in todays Brave New World.”
Correction - Reagan would never have a chance of being Nominated in today’s Brave New World.
Obama didn’t bail out the auto industry, he bailed out the UAW — pretty much the same guys that just spent $100 million getting him elected.
