Gay rights advocates from both parties are newly upbeat about the prospects for Senate passage of legislation that would bar employers from discriminating against workers on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.
In a sign of the times, the anti-bias legislation has traditional proponents such as the Human Rights Campaign, the largest gay and lesbian advocacy group, plus the backing of a relatively new group, the American Unity Fund. That organization has the financial support of big-name Republican donorshedge fund billionaires Paul Singer, Cliff Asness, Dan Loeb and Seth Klarmanand former GOP lawmakers Norm Coleman of Minnesota and Tom Reynolds of New York.
Most conservatives believe people in the workforce should be judged on their merits, said Jeff Cook-McCormac, a senior adviser to the fund, which has focused on gay rights initiatives in New Jersey, Minnesota, Rhode Island and Delaware. They shouldnt be judged on characteristics that are irrelevant in a productive employee.

Death to capitalist pigs.
Forget freedom as long as we have “equality”—that’s what matters to progressive perverts. How pathetic.
First the party or parties, then considition the populace tonserve neighbor gay masters to condition them to serve their government masters... who gives a crap about the country... the end of enslaving them justifies all the manners of means, including suicide.
One of Coleman’s and/or Reynolds’ kids ready to come out of the closet?
Why pass a mew law, when such laws against discrimination in hiring and in the workplace already exist?
The EEOC is still extant and it seems that everyone in Human Resources jobs are like bloodhounds in sniffing out any hint of discrimination, while constantly requiring sensitivity training. .....What a load of BS!
The shyster lawyers are loving this. Lawsuits galore!!! Every sexual deviant in the country and their “lawyers” are about to become very rich.
Most conservatives believe people in the workforce should be judged on their merits,
Actually, most conservatives say that employers have the right to hire and fire as they like, as private enterprises. Where the hell in the constitution is the government granted authority to lord it over private industry in this way?
Yet again, nobody seems to care about the CONSTITUTION!
We are heading for a time when liberals and libertarians/rinos, argue over taxes, and traditional Americanism/conservatism will have been squashed.
I’m not stupid enough to “discriminate” against perverts. Rather, I would fire them for performance reasons, for lateness, or because of cutbacks. No sane employer gives a specific, personal, non-business reason for any firing.
“Gay rights” because they’re special.
Any employer who says, "I'm firing you because you're queer", is too stupid to stay in business anyway.
The only minority in this country who does not have special protection is the White Male.
Which is why White men need to start working together instead of against each other. Too many of us will happy sell each other out in return for some temporary power.
Gender identity? In other words, your kid’s kindergarten teacher may well be a guy in a dress. Under federal protection, no less.
Same for any employer who says "I'm firing you for abusing company equipment" the day a queer employee leaves his original for a gay party flier on the company copier [it happened, and the employer lost in court]. You fire at a distinctly separate time from your real reason for firing, and you never say why, not even if an explanation might help the person you're firing.
Dear boener and mcconman... GOD IS WATCHING YOUR EVERY MOVE AND LISTENS TO YOUR EVERY WORD.
Democrats and RINOs in the Senate are wrongly ignoring that the Constitution's Article V requires them to first rally Congress to petition the states to ratify a gay rights amendment to the Constitution. And only if the states chose to ratify such an amendment would Congress have the specific power that it needs to protect such rights. (Congress also wrongly ignored Article V when it established unconstitutonal Obamacare.)
So all that Constitution-ignoring Democrats and RINOs in the Senate are doing is politicking to win votes from low-information, pro-gay voters imo.
