“Virginia Will Write the Next Big Chapter in the Obamacare Story” By Clark S. Judge
Hot Air ^ | November 1,2013 | Clark S. Judge

Posted on 11/02/2013 3:45:59 PM PDT by Hojczyk

Democrat Terry McAuliffe – a close ally of the president and super-wealthy Democratic Party fundraiser – is poised to be that bellwether candidate. He has loudly and repeatedly promised to march his state into a full-monty embrace of Obamacare. Meanwhile Republican Ken Cuccinelli is the nation’s most prominent state official opposing the massive law. He led state attorney generals in their anti-Obamacare lawsuits.

There is also a Libertarian candidate in the race. But if he proves a spoiler, count on Democrats nationally to hold ranks. National Democrats will see the anti-Obamacare coalition as too fractured to be a viable threat and they will be right. Whether McAuliffe wins or loses will be the only metric that will matters in Virginia.

What are the odds of Cuccinelli defeating the deep pockets Democrat?

The polling is a flashback to last year’s presidential race, that is, it is all over the place. The Roanoke College poll shows McAuliffe up by 15 points; the Quinnipiac poll has him ahead by 4 points. But the talk among professionals is that Cuccinelli is closing in. If body language matters, of late McAuliffe seems to have lost his earlier swagger.

For example, McAuliffe has said he wants to stop the building of coal-fired electric plants in the state, which is bad in itself for Virginia’s coal miners. But it is also a sure way to increase electric bills throughout a state where local coal is the principle source of inexpensive power plant fuel.

Then, too, in education, McAuliffe is close to the unions. Cuccinelli promises to be a reformer. McAuliffe is a raise-taxes liberal. Cuccinelli is a pro-growth conservative.

Whatever the outcome, the nationally race will be read as an Obamacare victory or defeat, with all in this tumultuous moment could follow from that.

Correct. The huge swing in polling numbers during the Obiecare roll-out has already sent a message.

Thank you. I have slowly been cutting the ties with my liberal friends. One just a week ago. He sent me an absolutely disgusting response to a commentary I posted to my own blog. I discarded him him like a used kleenex.

I’m female too and I share your sentiments. Sad, isn’t it that so many in our gender are so deceived and stupid? I guess Eve set the precedence in the Garden of Eden.

Went down and voted for Ken Cuccinelli this morning (was able to do absentee in person early voting because I am serving as an election official in a precinct that is not my own on Tuesday). I love my state and I’ve been worried sick about this election. I’ve been praying every day. Last thing we need is a sleazy scumbag like Terry at the head of our state.

Every government employee should be herded onto ObamaCare exchanges. They’ve had their Cadillac plans long enough.

Sarvis should have a meeting with the Cuccinelli people, seek a position of influence in the Republican administration, and then ask his supporters to cast their votes for Cuccinelli.

Is there any reason Cuccinelli would not consider this? Or Sarvis?

It seems like the best thing to do in this particular case. 0bamacare needs to be repudiated forcefully, and those who oppose McAuliffe should see that as the most important thing for the Commonwealth of Virginia and the country at large.

Hopefully, there's not too much antagonism of the libertarian voting bloc and candidate. Alienating libertarians with needlessly inflammatory vitriol would be the wrong move here.

Most Sarvis voters will probably break for Cuccinelli anyway, but a formal parley would be even more effective...

"The demoncrats will cheat no matter what."

I'm praying too - especially that the cheating is caught and stopped before it becomes effective.

Sarvis won’t do it because he is a Soros-funded astro-turf “libertarian.” He’s in the race to throw it to McAwful.

He’s a fake libertarian, and when the real Libertarian, Ron Paul, appears with Ken Monday, the plea to switch should be effective.

Problem is that Dems have a winning formula. All they have to do is appeal to folks that Republicans will cut this and that, and the Dem will win.

I won't be surprised if TM wins Tuesday.

I've wondered the same thing. Does anyone know if KC has reached out to Sarvis as described above? If not, why not? Hell, the stakes are too high to take the high road.
