Pete Wehner
Ive been quite critical of President Obama over the course of his presidency. Earlier this week, for example, I wrote a piece in which I accused Mr. Obama of mendacity. So I take a back seat to no one when it comes to leveling harsh judgments against the president. But even I, an Obama critic, believe there are some lines one should not cross, some things that should never be said, some blows that are too brutal even for American politics.
I had in mind what Jimmy Carter, who ranks with James Buchanan and a few others as among Americas worst and most inept presidents, said about Obama. When asked by Parade magazine how he would evaluate the Obama presidency so far, Carter said this:
Hes done the best he could under the circumstances. His major accomplishment was Obamacare, and the implementation of it now is questionable at best.
This is, as Guy Benson points out, a withering indictment from Mr. Malaise. And on first blush, I thought, an unfair one, at least given the source. Who is Jimmy Carter to indict anyone on grounds of incompetence. And yet the more I reflect on it, the more I think Mr. Carter may be on to something.
What exactly are the impressive achievements of President Obama? The revival of the American economy? Surging job growth? The success of the stimulus package and the number of “shovel ready jobs”? Moving us toward energy independence? Reducing the debt? Reducing poverty and the number of Americans on food stamps? His oversight of agencies like the IRS? The Fast and Furious program? Ending America’s political divisions and unifying his countrymen? Perhaps his skillful handling before, during, and after the terrorist assault on the American diplomatic outpost in Benghazi? His successes in Syria? Egypt? Iraq? Iran? Peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis? And dont forget his signature domestic achievement, the Affordable Care Act, which may rank among the worst major government programs in modern American history, a failure in both conception and implementation.
So it may be that Jimmy Carter has a right to sit in judgment of Barack Obama. Which is among the worst things that could be said about America’s 44th president.
Also, he personally lobbied for the Chicago Olympics, and failed.
Hes done the best he could under the circumstances.???
And what were those jimmy? He spent trillions of dollars?
He had control of both houses of congress?
Or was it that he had opposition from wraskelly conservative?
The old man still sickens me, will he never leave us?
Well, obviously *he’s* motivated by “ethnic purity”. Thanks smoothsailing.

Bwaaaahahahaaaaaaa!
I’m sure Carter is hoping the failure of obamacare will actually remove the title of “worst president”.
Soon, soon, very soon.
One does not diss The Won with impunity.
Precisely my thought.
If Jimmuh is slinging dirt about a DEM POTUS’s performance, then it’s hell frozen over.
Crazy times.
My first thought was "Oh, crap", but then I got to thinking, if an incompetent guy thinks you're incompetent, is that maybe a good sign?
Even a blind pig finds an acorn once in a while!!! Mr. Pot meet Mr. Kettle! It’s a battle for the bottom of the political barrel.
A few years ago I worked with a woman I considered to be pretty smart. Then she told me she thought Carter was the best president EVER. I immediately lost all respect for her and never asked for her advice or help again. What a moroon!
But I bet he has had lust in his heart (one word: Reggie).
“Soon, soon, very soon.”
I am ambivalent about Carter’s passing. I mean just think of Obama giving him a “state funeral!” It would be like two turds circling the bowl one above the other! Actually, I’m thinking that Fineswine, Pelousey or Reid would do the country a whole lot more good! Better still, all three!
>>>So it may be that Jimmy Carter has a right to sit in judgment of Barack Obama. Which is among the worst things that could be said about Americas 44th president.>>>
Love it!
Obama tried to give away the Panama Canal, but someone had already given it away.
Wow. That’s like Richard Simmons calling someone effeminate.
Pot-kettle....bwahahahahaha.
hilarious!!!
On the economic front, let's not forget the GM fiasco, the Fisker boondoggle, Solyndra and the Chevy Volt - only a few of the places where hundreds of Billions of taxpayer dollars went missing.
International Diplomacy? Don't forget those marvelous speeches Obama gifted to our friends the British. Luckily they were formatted for US players only, or they would have had to listen to them.
Of course, diplomacy begins at home. Obama needs to work on that, too. It's unwise for any official, let alone the POTUS, to say police officers "acted stupidly" or "If I had a son, he would look like Trayvon" in order to influence a verdict. Not very diplomatic.
I could go on but this is too long already (did I mention the Chicago Olympics?). Suffice it to say that it takes a truly remarkable man to make Carter look competent and Clinton seem honest.
