I doubt you'll find pics of a Shokazoba coverband.

“The Hype Committee decided the night before the party to disinvite (but still pay) Shokazoba.”

Score!

One of the gigs my band did way way back in the day was when while we were sound checking and warming up, they got cold feet and cancelled. They still paid us and we got the case of 32 Oz’ers.

Interestingly, that gig also was on a University campus.

Afrobeat, as a genre, was intentionally internationalist - it was meant to be a synthesis of Western and African music and to transcend tribal and national borders as a rebuke to violent chauvinism in Africa.

The music was effectively invented as a style by Fela Kuti, who took traditional Nigerian highlife music and mixed it with UK rock (via his friend Ginger Baker) and US funk (via his admiration for Sly Stone, who fronted an ethnically mixed band).

Hampshire College - whose students are almost 80% white and less than 5% black - are arrogantly standing in judgment over an Afrobeat band for being too diverse?

It used to be that political correctness was driven by overintellectualizing situations and trying to apply complicated communist theory to real life.

Today's politically correct vanguard is based on pure emotion rather than thought.

They cannot even explain why they do what they do, or recognize the inherent contradiction of their actions. They simply aren't smart enough.

a bunch of white folks playing afrofunk

I guess the kids at Hampshire College are too young to remember the Beastie Boys.

The general mindset at Hampshire College makes Marxachusetts look like Conservative Central.

Neither Beijing nor Moscow was ever so PC.

I am quite familiar with Hampshire college. This place makes most other colleges look like conservative strongholds.

Two stories I heard that I know are true. There was this student that did not believe in using anything made of plastic. The way to get in the dorms was by swiping the student ID card through a card reader. Since she would not use anything plastic she had to either wait for someone to open the door for here or crawl through a window. Of course the school administration accommodated her and made sure she had a first floor room so she could crawl through the window.
Another student decided he did not want to live in the dorm so he set up a tent on campus and lived in it all year even through our New England winters. Of course the administration accommodated him and reimbursed the family the price of the dorm.

In the Land of the Perpetually Aggrieved, even a Halloween party gets screwed up.

Colonized a style of music originating from a racially oppressed people...it sounds like the indoctrination is coming along nicely. The booming babies replacing the baby boomers.
