Cops should never be allowed to shoot first. They should only be allowed to return fire after being shot at. No more of this they just want to go home at night to their families. If that’s what they want, then get a different job.

Now, I'm not going to judge this incident one way or another, but if people want hyper-realistic "toy" guns, they need to anticipate the potential consequences. There was a case in Texas recently where some men were stopped by police for carrying real guns; rifles slung over their shoulders. Had the police driven up, and within 5 or 10 seconds had shot and killed them, then would you be saying that the men in question needed to anticipate the potential consequences?

Its definitely a problem with tactics. Like everything else in a bureaucracy, everything is proceduralized to the point where there is no room for individual judgment. its all black & white, go/no-go, and no application of common sense.

Toy makers have been making realistic looking guns for decades, 13 year olds weren't being accidentally shot. Generally speaking, yes.
Something else has changed.
Yep, the attitude of both cops and yutes.

if people want hyper-realistic "toy" guns, they need to anticipate the potential consequences.Right -- let's turn Toyz R Us into a kill zone for the police.
How about we just teach the police that the 2nd Amendment entitles civilians to carry guns and things that look like guns.
To: Red Badger
You mean he(the cop) didn’t carry a cheap RG-22 handgun to drop on the body when he discovered his error?
“Duh we saw dis person wit an AK-47 toy and he pulled out dis real pistol and we shot him.” Sarc/Off

To: DoodleDawg
Yeah, actually I would. You may not like it, but if a cop tells you to drop the gun, and you don't, he is probably going to shoot you.
As a conservative I believe in responsibility, and when something bad happens to me, I worry about what I could have done or can do in the future to make sure it doesn't happen again. And when my children want to do things that might lead them into harm, I stop them.
You can go traipsing through life expecting everyone you encounter to do everything nicely and correct.
I don't have that kind of faith in my fellow man.

Yeah, I'm all for that. Until then I am going to do everything I can to avoid being shot.
You can do what you want.

Something else has changed. Yeah, we have schools where kids are suspended for pointing their fingers like a gun. So, it's not to hard to understand that kids walking around with guns these days, toys or otherwise, is going to attract attention, probably from the old spinster lady down the block.
I don't like it either, but it's called reality.

Yeah, the kid removed the gay orange tip. Seems like he took the FSB with it.
You're not seriously saying the lack of the FSB should have been enough for the cop to know it wasn't real?
AKs can kill you even without the front sight.

If someone points a gun at a cop, they should be shot. How about in this case where the deputy thought that the person was going to point his weapon at him so he took him out as a preventative measure with 7 shots that hit their mark.
To: Uncle Chip
Did he use these targets?
It looks like the No More Hesitation meme works.

There is nothing wrong with openn carry. Apparently there is in Santa Rosa, California. Police shoot you for it.

Explains a lot, really.Yep
