The definition of “natural born” was given by the Naturalization Law of 1790, and the congressional record shows that the British law of one British parent determining the natural born status of the child born overseas was to be followed.

And, for the record, Vattel was French and did not use the term “natural born”. As a Frenchman he used French, and specifically used the French term: “indigenes” — indigenous — native. Even though there is a French word for “natural” and a French word for “born”, he did not use them together. The naturelle are the indigenes.

Let me help you out, here, you do realize that I am NOT the author of the essay I posted, right?

And, you do understand that Vattel was a reference in the article and NOT the subject of the article itself.

From what I am seeing, you are arguing about the shape of the table instead of the issue ON the table.

When you figure that part out, feel free to get back to me.

For the record, Vattel was not French. This claim is factually incorrect.

Vattel wrote in French because that was the language of statecraft. Frankly, anyone who can't read French is too illiterate to have an informed opinion on this matter.
