The incident took place at 11:40 a.m. at Newman Elementary School, which is located at 4150 Walnut Ave.
The Chino Police Department was giving a safety presentation for Red Ribbon Week when a firearm accidentally was discharged, police said.

Somebody used a Glock and didn’t follow basic Eddie Eagle rules about clearing and demonstrating a firearm’s use.

I guess more details will emerge as to who really pulled the trigger. I will keep watching.
When I go on longer walks (7 miles or more) I do pass by this school.

There is no such thing as an accidental discharge.A negligent discharge is caused by either ignorance or carelessness.
The person can be considered ignorant, if they have not been trained.
They are careless, if they disregard their training.
Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot
Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use

Does this mean the police department’s grenade safety presentation scheduled for next week is postponed?!?
To: Repeat Offender
A weapon accidentally discharged, all by itself? So, let me guess: the gun, of its own accord decided to load at least one round into the chamber. Then, the gun was just settin' there behaving and playing with itself and then "accidentally discharged." Of course, there was no human involvement whatsoever. This reminds me that I need to have a good talk with all of my guns, so the same thing doesn't happen to them. We've all seen that with electric typewriters: they "go-off" all by themselves.

Does this mean the police departments grenade safety presentation scheduled for next week is postponed?!?Nope. And the week after that is the dog training presentation.

They could very easily be fired or suspended at the least.
The gun was on a police motorcycle and a student got a hold of it and pointed it toward the ground, pulled the trigger and the loaded gun did what most guns do when you pull the trigger. The student got scared at the loud noise, dropped the gun and ran into the field. That is what I have heard from later newscast based on student witnesses.

Well, as mentioned earlier, you could take the ammo away from the .357. Even if you only removed one wheel from the SUV, it would prevent it from going out and killing someone.
Either that or disconnect the ground from the battery.

But only the police are sufficiently well trained to possess firearms...

But, but that means I’d hurt their feelings. OMG my Pitador and Great Dnne might even get upset. Then where would I be?

Why was a loaded weapon unattended? What the kid was world class stupid, but as cop you gotta plan for that, especially if you were surrounded by elementary schoolers. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Yes, and just to be safe, the justice department will be confiscating the grenade for, um, "redistribution".

Weapon was a rifle (uh oh it was an AR-15 and we know those have an “evil” disposition to them) mounted on the motorcycle that was part of the display. According to the police spokesperson there are several security measures in place (as to how the weapon in mounted) and several fail safes too.
To: Celtic Conservative
The latest I heard it was an AR-15 attached to a motorcycle on display for the program. Yes someone should have been close by.

Security measures and failsafes all rendered moot by a 5th grader? something smells on that explanation. I'm also an instructor so I get paid to think about these things.
