Ted Cruzs office has written a memo that takes aim at the establishment politicians and members of the pundit class that continue to second-guess efforts to defund Obamacare and blame the Texas senator for the government shutdown.
The defund plan produced tangible results that create both immediate and long-term benefits for the country and the conservative cause, the memo, which has been circulated in political circles and obtained by The Daily Caller, argues.
Here is the Cruz argument about why the defunding Obamacare effort was worth it:
First, it intensified the nations focus on Obamacare. Second, it energized Americans by showing there are people in Washington willing to take real action to stop Obamacare. Third, it exposed, for all to see, the Democrats refusal to compromise out of blind devotion to their extreme liberal agenda. Lastly, it proved the need for Republicans to unite and stand firm together in their resolve to defeat Obamacare.
Cruzs office takes particular issue with those who blame Cruz and not the Democrats for the shutdown. On Monday, for example, the liberal MSNBC website asserted as fact that President Obama is coming off a big win in the government shutdowna 16-day fiasco where Republicans looked like they couldnt keep the government working.
The memo dismisses that thinking: Despite claims made by the left, members of the media, and many other members of the DC establishment it was Harry Reid & President Obama, not Senator Cruz & the House Republicans who forced a government shutdown.
President Obama is responsible for shutting down the government because he refused to negotiate with the House of Representatives to keep the government open, the memo states. President Obama issued 15 veto threats to bills the House of Representatives passed, with significant bipartisan support, to re-open the government and fund vital government services, such as the Department of Veterans Affairs and the national parks.
Republicans’ strategy for CR / Debt Ceiling should be single demand: ObamaCare delay until a bipartisan panel certifies site working and settled law implemented as enactedno waivers!
People were feeling helpless.
Now they feel powerful.
Smoked the pigs right out of their hole.
My first thought exactly! But I knew Cruz couldn’t say it.
“People were feeling helpless.
Now they feel powerful.”
Exactly! WE!!! caused the House of Representatives to hold the line for two weeks, frustrating Harry Reid no end. And nobody’s gonna make be believe that he wasn’t fuming in his office. Chuckie Schumer’s up against a master chess player now, a fearless fighter. Despite the narrative, we drew blood, and they know it!
The key result of the Cruz effort was the focus and sunlight brought to bear on a failed, socialist concept.
Next, it helped to define which EGOs were more offended by the attention he received than were truly concerned about tactics.
It showed the need for an immediate purge of the GOPe leadership.
I'd call that a success. :-)
He thought nobody would notice nuthin.'
Now he has to work hard to get rid of the smell of that dead skunk stinking up the undercarriage of the car.
It also gave us an easy question for the next Repub debates. “Where were you when Ted Cruz was standing up there all by himself?”
It is a strategy, Mr. Belligerent. It would effectively kill ObamaCare, and win the PR war.
IOW, the wrong move, politically.
Still like Cruz, though.
That in itself was worth the effort. Smoking out the RINO’s to target for
primary challenges! We won’t get them all, but we can get a few.
How is delaying Obamacare until it “works” a strategy? And do you seriously think we can ever win a “PR war” in this media environment?
If we had a fair and impartial press there would be no such thing as 0bamaCare and
0bama would have never been elected a U.S. senator much less president.
BECAUSE IT CANNOT WORK! Wake up. This is all becoming clear. Watch and see.
