Lautenberg died in June after nearly three decades in the U.S. Senate. Many people would agree that he is owed a debt of gratitude but not everybody agrees that his widow Bonnie should receive $174,000, funded by taxpayers.
Lautenberg was worth nearly $60-million.
I dont think its right. I mean most us cant afford death benefits like that. You know we would be happy to have a little bit saved just to bury ourselves, Wayne resident Carol Dabaghian said.
The payoff was buried in the government shutdown bill. It is a death benefit that is almost always approved and is typically equal to one years salary. Despite the cost some New Jersey residents felt that Lautenberg earned it for his family.

If it was a life insurance contract, that would be one thing, but this is a gratuity. How could any of these people believe they deserve more from the taxpayer? How could they not be ashamed of themselves?
She should not receive the money.
She could donate the money to a worthy cause and that would be HER decision and a good thing.
What BS. I’m sure the communist had government paid life insurance. Wonder how much THAT paid out?
To give his wife another $174K of taxpayer money is just beyond the pale.
“How could they not be ashamed of themselves?”
Liberals have no shame where their own conduct is involved. They only shriek “Have you no shame!!!?” at those who disagree with them.
Someone should say to Widow Lautenberg, “Filthy capitalist dollars? I thought you progressives never touch the stuff!”
Contrast this to the measly $255 death benefit the government gives the peons. I’m sick of the elite ruling class.

It took 3 years for the VA to get the paperwork correct and start paying benefits to my father in-law which he earned going into France on D-Day in a glider and for his service landing in operation Market Garden.
.
“Gimme dat! Gimme dat widow’s money!”
What a country...
They should not get a pension while the country is in debt. And, they should serve only two terms: one in congress, and one in prison.
She should probably be jailed for being a conspirator in all of frank’s thefts from the public.
You’d think she could donate it back to the US. My goodness she must be ancient too.
LOL! Excellent!
And that’s only if there is a surviving spouse.
