The other side of Obamacare’s Oregon success: No one has bought private insurance
Washington Post ^ | October 18, 2013 | By Sarah Kliff

Posted on 10/18/2013 4:03:41 PM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

Yesterday I wrote about Oregon's big success signing people up for Obamacare: The state had, in the course of 17 days, signed up 56,000 people for the health law's Medicaid expansion. In one fell swoop, the state had cut its uninsured rate by 10 percent.

That is, however, only part of the story from Oregon. When it comes to private insurance, spokeswoman Amy Fauver said that it has not yet had any sign-ups.

Oregon initially projected that 7,000 people would sign up for private coverage this month. Fauver wouldn't say whether that number still seems reasonable, with 12 days left to go in the month.

My comment on the WP article:

Comrades, do not listen to capitalist stooge Sarah Cliff. By next 5-year plan, Obamacare will be smashing health care records like today in glorious workers’ paradises Cuba and in Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. This shall be happy new reality after last dying breath of so-called “free market” capitalist insurance corporations, according to plan as laid out by Dear Leader Obama in speech of 2003 to labor unions. Step by step, comrades, steady on course, forward to victory! Of course today capitalist saboteurs and wreckers are slandering glorious plan of Dear Leader Obama. Do not worry, comrades, with unceasing efforts of commissars day and night in IRS-NSA-ACA data hubs, soon State Security Services shall expose all reactionary so-called “tea party” traitors. After these decaying worms are pulled from glorious socialist soil, happy new day of equal health care rationing for all will result, as in best years of former Soviet Union!

Those states who had the sense to say “no” to the Medicaid expansion will come out as the smart ones.

When folks sign up and see the “sticker shock” they’ll soon be relieved to be amazingly qualify for Medicaid. Medicaid rolls will expand big time.

Those states who accepted Medicaid expansion will soon find their 90/10 obligation skyrocket. When the feds back out of the deal (which they will) those states will be left holding the bag.

Suckers!!!!

56,000 signed up for the Medicaid expansion under Obamacare and

Fauver said. "We're extremely thrilled about that, and expect the number to go up in coming weeks."

Good grief.

Y’know, there’s a god idea in that. People who live in one if those “sucker” states ought to start pushing at their state legislators for their manifest stupidity. Now would be a good time for that.

So, let me see if I've got this right:

The state has signed up 56,000 people for Medicaid expansion. They will pay nothing, or virtually nothing, for this "insurance". The program is temporarily funded 90/10 federal/state. In three years, the feds stop making their contribution and the entire burden shifts to the Oregon taxpayers.

And Oregon and the Washington Post are celebrating this?

Reading your screed, I thought at first you joking until I realized you were quoting an old musty editorial from PRADVA!

But then I got it and saw you were actually quoting Sheila Jackson Lee who was dreaming she was Nancy Pelosi sucking up to George Soros but somehow she couldn't get her ignorant ghetto trash accent to quite fit with the slimy New York/ San Francisco argot. That was before I came near to the end and realized you were really channeling Chuck Schumer who does all of it quite well and even looks and talks a lot like Nikita Khrushchev but without the all warts plus a rictus grin.

Ha Ha. Good one, Travis! You sure had me fooled!!

One guy didn’t like it. Here’ his stinging retort to me:
“Every developed country on Earth has universal health care except the United States. If you think that’s “socialist” then you have a really crazy definition of what socialism that has been defined down from the USSR past red-China, past the social democracies of Europe all the way to the countries like the UK, Canada and Australia. Are Canada and Australia socialist hellholes? No. Do facts matter to you people?”
