I read down through this thread and there are a lot of good songs and music mentioned here, but most of it is really dated. Whenever you get tired of listening to the old stuff check out youtube for some of following performers:

Reckless Kelly, Micky and the Motorcars, Jason Boland and the Stragglers, Charlie Robison, Jerry Audley, The Damn Quails, Walt Wilkins, Whiskey Myers, Red Dirt Rangers, Hayes Carl, Stoney Larue, Uncle Lucius, and others.

Yes I am a little bit Red Dirt-Texas-Okie centric when it comes to music.
