Why subject their people to the whims and incompetence of the feds for such an important thing?

I believe that was the point. Why should a state provide cover for the fascist tendency and incompetence of an overreaching federal government?

Seems the residents are going to pay for their governor's obstinacy.

Wnen it comes to expanding Medicaid, our Governor did this state a HUGE service by opting out. I was never a fan of the Governor, but this alone gives me cause to vote for him the next time he runs. In the coming years, the states that expanded Medicaid will find their budgets creeping into the red for years to come as they accommodate the wealth redistribution scheme of their federal overlords. Meanwhile, states like mine will begin to experience a migration as third and fourth generation lifetime welfare recipients will begin to flee in favor of states that implemented the socialist expansion. Those not eligible for subsidies here will relocate to states where they are eligible. So again, my governor deserves nothing but praise for his decision to not help the Obama Administration destroy this country.

It seems you are going to win with “feel good ideology” and lose in every other respect. Just like the house.
