The limiter is not the vehicle, it’s the platform the vehicle will be dropped from. The Herc is still a great aircraft, but it’s tiny. The Galaxy has more wasted space under its tail than the 130 has in its entire cargo bay. I’d rather see them focus on finding ways to use the C-17 in this role, which would dramatically expand the possible candidates.
Alternately, robot tanks could take point.
