Senate leaders reached agreement Wednesday to avert a threatened Treasury default and reopen the government after a partial, 16-day shutdown, according to a Republican senator who also said the House might vote first on the plan to speed its approval.
The New York Stock Exchange soared on the news that the threat of default was easing in, rising nearly 200 points by late morning.
"I understand they've come to an agreement but I'm going to let the leader announce that," Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H........

The GOP conservative should rebel in the House against Boehner and vote him out as the Speaker and replace him with a conservative Speaker willing to do battle and take Obama to the mat.
In fact the GOP should take the following line in talking to Obama.
"Look, Barry, we have the votes to stop you cold, and we have decided to use those votes. That's the discussion a real Speaker of the House should be having with Obama.
"We control government funduing and we are going to exercise that control.
"We are talking about a complete shutdown where not so much as a dime will be available for you to even heat the White House, so get ready to stay at the local Holiday Inn on your own dime for the duration. Also, tell Michelle she can send her 100+ assistants home to, and weed her own garden.
"The only thing we will fund during that time is the US military you hate so much.
"When you are ready to talk about seriously creating a budget...one that is balanced, one that really reduces the debt...and we are talking about a true reduction in the actual amount we owe, not just a reduction in the percentage of your spending increases...and a budget we that puts an end to ObamCare. When you are ready to seriously talk to us about those things...get back with us.
"Oh, BTW, Barry. One other thing we will fund is the following. The House of Reprentatives will meet each day with the express purpose of impeaching your sorry backside each day for the next 60 working days. Impeach you each day on a different charge. 60 impeachments, Barry. When you get ready to talk to us, then the first thing the Senate will have to take up is those 60 impeachments. Think about that while you are waiting, and watching.
"So, we have the votes, and we are firm. Give us a call when you are ready to talk. Bye now."
Boxer is speaking on the Senate floor now
“We are always going to have disagreements...”
Sheesh, if there is a crisis in a few hours, why is the Senate wasting time and not voting right now?
Both put up a good fight. Ah ha ha ha that’s a good one.
cspan2 now reporting a senate vote imminent (nothing evidently happening on the senate floor which is being broadcast right now), and that house support for the bill is likely but hastert rule likely to be violated according to politico.
CSPAN2 commentator saying sources say Boehner urged passage of the senate bill with Republicans today and got a standing ovation from Republicans...
on the senate floor murchowsky speaking for a while urging passage of the senate bill, now Chambliss (R-GA) speaking about some al quida terrorist considerations... might never have an opportunity to interrogate the terrorist...
Lets start that conversation by acknowledging we arent going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants... bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society. Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors. [but hes not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.
Sen Cruz just concluded brief remarks on the Senate floor. His usual speech, emphasizing lack of support of American workers by Senate Republicans.
Now Sen Schumer (D-NY).
Has anyone seen a bill?
“I think he has a good chance of being thrown out of the Speakership, but I’d never make book on it.”
And it’s a good thing you didn’t. The whole Pub caucus is singing his praises tonite. All of them.
When you look at Boehner’s likely replacements, it’s just as well. Kicking Boehner out would give us Speaker Cantor. Whoopdeedoo. They haven’t learned carp. Let the whole lot of them sink in one great big boat.
They do realize that the only way to avoid default is to Replace Obama and his Secretary Lew?
“Each month the government collects $250 billion in taxes, and if the Congress decided not to raise the debt ceiling, Secretary Lew would have adequate resources to pay the $23 billion in interest to the public.”
Basically that means Obama could decide at any moment to just not pay the interest on the debt, the same now as he did before. There is more than 10 times more revenue than is needed to pay such interest payments so its entirely up to Obama.
That being said I would not shed a tear should they decide not to and our Federal government’s credit rating go down to zero. The ability to run up cheap debt is a MAJOR liability in a democracy, as it quite obviously enables politicians to spend future generation’s money to buy the current generation’s vote, while avoiding the consequences of theses expenditures.
The government REALLY needs taxpayers now. Amnesty will be a done deal. They have to integrate EVERYONE into the taxpaying system.
