This year's contrived budget crisis is headed to its climax, as the date for defaulting on the nation's debt approaches.
Washington's budget debates are dizzying and incomprehensible. But at stake is what kind of country we will have. House Republican Tea Party zealots, backed by well-funded right-wing lobbies, continue to manufacture budget crises. They want to alarm Americans into accepting cuts in basic security â in food stamps, and home heating, in Social Security or Medicare benefits â that would otherwise be utterly unacceptable.
Lost in the uproar is any reasoned discussion of the real strategies we need to make this economy work for working people. It is vital that the president and the Democrats in Congress end this macabre dance and make it clear to people just what the stakes actually are. The measure of any compromise deal is whether it will crush the hostage-takers.

Well,I just think that's kinda mean spirited;)
Every time we hear ‘tea party extremists’; they need to hear marxist/socialist/progressive extremists (take your pick). Every time.
No, it is Obama and Democrats.
Really they just got it all wrong. TPers do not want to reduce welfare, SS and Medicare. They want to abolish them as federal programs. The libs have every right to be afraid of the TP. It will end their reign of terror and slavery once and for all.
They are really pushing the “hostage” meme.
I want a bumper sticker that says...
“YES, I support the Tea Party.
You got a problem with that?”
Sounds good to me...
Meanwhile, the commie/socialist/muzzies hold the Dem party hostage (although they seem to be enjoying it), but not a peep from the “news” media.....
I am willing to bet that within ten minutes Freepers could come up with enough justifiable spending cuts that the budget would be balanced, rendering the "debt ceiling" question moot.
Robert L. Borosage never met a communist he didn’t like. In the 1970’s & 1980’s he practically lived at the Soviet embassy, supported Swimmer Kennedy’s nuclear freeze, cheerled for the Sandinistas & Fidel Castro, called Ho Chi Minh his hero, worked with the CPUSA, you name it.
With the fall of the USSR, Borosage like many lefties steered his commie zeal into environmentalism, globalism, UN sovereignty, antinukes, PLO/PA, defund Israel, etc. He remains a proud Marxist to this day.
Tea Party are the `kulaks’ of today to this creep; a class enemy in need of reeducation or elimination.
You’re welcome fag face.
You’re welcome, you marxist extremists...
