The principal of a public high school in Washington, D.C. indicated that he would ask the student government to decide whether or not to prohibit clothing featuring the Washington Redskins name something at least one American Indian student thought was offensive.
Principal Pete Cahall of Woodrow Wilson High School told The Washington Post that the decision would be placed in the hands of student council members, who would have the power to decide on behalf of all students, collectively whether the Redskins moniker is offensive.
Ive got no dog in the fight, he told The Washington Post. If nothing else, its a learning opportunity.
He did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
One American Indian student told Cahall that the name Redskins was offensive a belief shared by President Barack Obama, who recently said it would be wise for the Washington-based NFL team to consider changing it. Since Obamas pronouncement, various commentators have weighed in on the issue, including NBC sportscaster Bob Costas, who said the name was offensive and should be changed.
Some of the pressure to change the name comes from illegitimate sources, however. A New York state assemblywoman recently told The Daily Caller that self-proclaimed Oneida Nation leader Ray Halbritter is not actually an Oneida. Redskins owner Dan Snyder supports keeping the moniker and maintains that most American Indians do as well.
“Washington” is more offensive than “Redskins”.
Let’s burn any book in their library that any one student finds offensive, too!
I think this team is a disgrace using this name connecting itself with Washington ,LOL
That Indian kid was probably still pissed that he couldn’t run the gambling in the high school.
I have a simple solution, just remove the last four letters and make it the “Washington Reds”.
And if 500 students thought the Mexican flag was offensive would they ban that?
None of them can read so how are they offended by it?
Some conservative student should file a claim at the school that he finds the Obama logo, pictures of Che on t-shirts, etc., offensive, then challenge them to ban those the same way they did with the (probably fabricated) Redskins complaint, or else to dismiss both complaints. If they don’t, file suit for discrimination. Use liberals’ paradigms on them themselves and see how they like it.
Coming Soon.. no more US flags.. They have Red stripes on them.
That far fetched?
look at some of the flags O supporters are carrying.
PC on steroids.
Libralism is a MENTAL DISORDER!!
BREAKING: Dan Snyder has caved, saying the name of the Washington Redskins is offensive to too many people and that the name will be changed for the 2014 season. They will be known henceforth as the Landover Redskins.
It really isn't. This is all being done by the Alinsky playbook. They are polarizing and focusing on a single issue and making it personal.
The Alinsky-ites are so firmly entrenched that anything short of an electoral A-bomb won't do.
Just rename them the “DC Moochers”
PETA says keep the name and change the mascot to a potato!
Seriously. Aren’t there some first amendment rights involved here?
If I was a liberal Democrat in 2013, I’d be laughing and crapping on everyone too....
No, make the team honor Washington’s “leader”:
The Washington Stompy Feet
(evil grin)
Naw, the Big Ears.
