I dunno. I think he’s pretty detached most of the time. Don’t deign to get your hands dirty with the details. I think he just turns it over to ideological Fellow Travelers knowing that they’ll know what he’d want.

Of the two opinions stated, I think the last five years have shown that the second — a detached president who delegates duties to people chosen more for their ideological agreement than for their managerial competence and experience — is more likely to be true.

While appointing people based on ideology rather than proven skills is not unheard of on our side of the aisle either, let's not forget that conservative ideologues tend to be people who have run their own businesses or managed somebody else’s business before they entered government.

That means they may not have a lot of governmental experience, but they often do have a great deal of managerial experience.

That isn't the case on the Democratic side of the aisle.
