Obama demands quick House vote on shutdown
wash times ^ | 10/7/13 | d boyer

On the seventh day of the shutdown, President Obama called on House Republican leaders Monday to allow a vote immediately on a short-term measure to reopen government operations.

Mr. Obama said he strongly suspects “there are enough votes” in the House to reopen the government today.

“The truth of the matter is, there are enough Republican and Democratic votes in the House of Representatives right now to end this shutdown immediately with no partisan strings attached,” Mr. Obama said during a surprise visit to FEMA headquarters in the district. “The House should hold that vote today.”

The president said he is “happy” to talk to Republicans about budget issues, but not under threat of a shutdown or a government default.

“We’re not going to establish that pattern,” Mr. Obama said, urging the GOP to “move beyond this manufactured crisis.”

Speaker John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican, has said there are not enough votes in the House to pass a “clean” resolution to reopen the government temporarily. He said Democrats must accept changes to Obamacare before Republicans will agree to a budget deal.

“Providing fairness to the American people, under Obamacare, is all we’re asking for,” he said.

Mr. Obama dared Mr. Boehner to hold a vote.

Nonsense.

All you need is the people and they are slowly turning.

We wouldn't have wanted you planning the fight during the '76 Revolution.

Always with the ad hominem attacks without understanding the meaning. Very constructive.

The health care insurance system is already turned on its ear. It was bad but now it is worse and repairing it will take a long time and more resolve and honesty than we now have in our government.

Less than 30% was all it took in 1776... 30% committed enough to risk all. I’ll be waiting for something like critical mass but not holding my breath. It isn’t hurting bad enough for the sheeple to turn.

more resolve and honesty than we now have in our government.

Which is why we need elections to go our way (always the case when a big change is needed).

My belief is the sheeple are getting tired of "cry wolf" which the Dems use whenever they want their way. If this begins to not work anymore the Dems/media have lost their #1 tool which they've used for decades now and the worm turns.

Let us hope the steady drone of one crisis after another is wearing thin. I know it is wearing me down even though I know what it is.

The only tools the left have and use are Fear and Greed. It is a very simple toolkit but they use it so well. Only two tools. It seems like we could be smarter than to allow them to use it so effectively.

I do think it is although it takes an awfully long time.

Look...Obama did NOT get gun control even though the CT shooting took place in the first 100 days of his second term when he had maximum political capital. In addition he had to agree to sequestration which SLOWS the growth of Gov't (yes, I know it doesn't cut it but even to SLOW the growth is a Democrat taboo). In addition, the Democrats did NOT succeed in getting rid of the Bush tax cuts for 99% of us.

Now we have the public blaming the Dems just as much for the shutdown as the GOP...which is a big change from what usually happens.

The only tools the left have and use are Fear and Greed. It is a very simple toolkit but they use it so well. Only two tools. It seems like we could be smarter than to allow them to use it so effectively.

Fear, Greed (and "Hate" I might add and I think I'd put that on top of the list) are what they've always used. And I don't think it's mostly about being smarter (although that is certainly part of winning the war if not the battles). I think a huge part of it is visceral emotion on the part of the masses and the ability of demagogues to manipulate it.

I had put the religion of the left based on Fear, Greed and Envy but thought Greed and Envy are cousins... both breed hate but you are correct... Hate is a tool to divide and conquer.

I have taken slim hope in the items you mention though I to take your point.

Smarter may not be the real issue... we don’t think the way they do because we don’t live in the same mind set they do.

I’ve said that wars are started by evil, power hungry, greedy people and that hard working, family loving, God fearing people finally get a belly full of it all, fight back and have always kicked the stuffing out of any despot. Then they go back to their quiet lives until the next miserable SOB comes along. Wash, rise, repeat.

If we can get through this period without a war it will be a wonderful thing. Let's hope Madame Hillary does not choose to run on the heels of the Chicago thug or war may become a reality.

Hope you have a good evening.

Obama is welcome to demand - that has been his approach to life for five decades. I just pray that no one will listen to the resident of our White House.
