What's changed in 70 years? Nothing except that the British are no longer the masters of the region.
The Arabs, oops, I mean Palestinians still want to kill all the Jews and the Palestinians have always aligned themselves with greater powers that might be able to help them accomplish that most “holy” goal.
Throughout all the tortuous negotiations the Palestinians have refused one simple and basic request, to recognize the Jewish homeland of Israel and it's right to exist, borders to be negotiated. Up till now, they've danced around the issue with nuances in Arabic and English but they just can't seem to say or agree to it because the reject Israel, therefore there can be no peace - hatred of Israel defines their identity.
While the Palestinians have had 3 (PLO)leaders in 50 years (Abu Shukri, Yassir Arafart and Abu Mazen), since 1993 alone, Israel has had 6 Prime Ministers! The Jews of Israel chnaged Prime Ministers and shifted from the Far right to the Middle to the Left and then back to the middle right JUST to see if they could reach a compromise with the Palestians - the Palis ALWAYS reject EVERY offer - it's their nature so the struggle and dispute goes on as the Jews have agreed to a two state solution.
In 1947 the UN issued the Partition for Palestine option, the Arabs (again, no real Arafart PLO Palestinians yet) rejected it, the Jews accepted it. Now the two state solution is being offered again which is really just about this 1947 plan all over again, rewarmed in the microwave oven. The Arabs (not Palestinians) could have had a wonderful, productive and prosperous state by now but they prefer to keep their finger up their bums on a regular basis and wallow in their own hatred and filth.
