Sad news. RIP, Tom Clancy. "Hunt for Red October" was one of the books that helped my husband and I fall in love with each other when we met 25 years ago this month! I'd read the book and loved it, and then met my husband, who had also read the book and in fact designed and built a scale model of the Red October for a movie project in the first months of our courtship. The book gave us common ground. It remains my favorite of all the Clancy books, though I liked them all; Rainbow Six runs a close second.

Thanks, God, for loaning us Tom Clancy for 66 years.

That’s a pretty neat story!

I lived in San Francisco at the time and bought the book. I would go to Union Square and read it over my lunch hour a few times.
Not sure why I remember that; but I do.

He was a master story teller; truly gifted.
