The Kenyan military has named four members the Shabaab suicide assault team that attacked the Westgate Mall in Nairobi, Kenya two weeks ago. Among the four named Shabaab members is a Sudanese man who is said to have led the team. No Westerners have been named so far.

Major Emmanuel Chirchir, the spokesman for the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), named the four as Abu Baara al-Sudani, Omar Nabhan, Khattab al-Kene and Umayr.
“I confirm these were the terrorists. They all died in the raid,” Chirchir told Reuters, citing the findings of the KDF and national intelligence bodies.
SNIPPET: “It is unclear if Kenyan forces have captured or recovered the bodies of other members of the assault team that attacked the Westgate. Between 10 and 15 fighters, split between several teams, are thought to have executed the attack, but there are credible reports that at least two fighters may have changed clothes and escaped during the confusion of the attack. Additionally, the Kenyan government claimed that nine people who are thought to be involved in the attack are in custody, but it is unclear if they were involved in the fighting or are part of the logistics and support network.”
This is similar to what they did at the Mumbai massacre. Westerners were sexually mutilated.

Six years earlier, a well-armed gunman stormed a shopping mall in Salt Lake City, intending to kill as many people as possible. Witnesses say he shouted “Allahu Akbar!” — or “Allah is greatest!” as he opened fire, killing five people before being shot by an off-duty police officer.
Described as a religious Muslim, the gunman reportedly bragged of a jihadist grandfather and attended a mosque suspected of radicalizing him.
Sulejmen Talovic’s February 2007 attack is not classified as a terrorist attack, but rather cast as “the act of a madman.” In a New York Post column Sunday, writer Paul Sperry wonders why. And he points out that fears of a terrorist attack on an American mall, based on the Kenya attack by the Islamist terrorist group al-Shabaab, ignore the fact that such attacks already have happened here.”

SNIPPET: “When the Somali Al-Qaeda affiliate Al-Shabaab Al-Mujahideen launched its September 21, 2013 attack on the Westgate Mall in Nairobi, Kenya, it had an important tool at its disposal for disseminating information about its actions and its ideology – the microblogging service Twitter. Al-Shabaab tweeted step-by-step details of the attack, from taking credit for it and explaining its reasons to releasing information about its killing of over 60 civilians, to the names and nationalities of its fighters participating in the operation, and more – all in real time. During the attack, and as soon as the media began reporting that Al-Shabaab not only had a Twitter account but was actively tweeting during the attack, Twitter shut it down; Al-Shabaab then moved rapidly through a series of official and unofficial accounts and handles to continue to get its message out.
