House GOP whip Kevin McCarthy said the House will send a third government-funding bill with a few other options if the Democratic-controlled Senate rejects the bill passed in the House last night, as expected.
We will pass a bill . . . that will keep the government open, that will reflect the House, that I believe the Senate can accept, that will have fundamental changes to Obamacare that can protect the economy for America, McCarthy said on Fox News Sunday.
The remarks confirm National Review Onlines reporting yesterday that House leadership is considering an eleventh-hour play like passing a clean continuing resolution (CR) with language added to end a subsidy for congressional staffers to purchase health insurance.
McCarthy said there are a lot of items on the table in discussions about which provision to add to an otherwise clean CR.
From discussions with rank-and-file Republicans late into the evening last night in the Capitol, its clear the plan will run into some resistance from the GOP conference. The closed-door meeting where Speaker John Boehner announced the latest plan turned into something of a pep rally, producing a unified conference ready to charge into battle with Obama. Boehner did not mention the next step to his strategy to his members, and at least most of them did not appear to anticipate he would be going in that direction.
On two occasions in the past several weeks, GOP leadership has unveiled a plan only to see conservatives quickly defeat it, prompting questions over whether that could happen again as leadership prepares a culled-down third volley to send to Reid.

If true, it will be confirmed that the MSM was right and the republican party really was playing games.
They should have held the line and kept their credibility.
Ditto that, all cards face up on the table!
And add more to it to make it worse for them!
That’s not a cave. Actually they should add all federal workers and rescind any waivers that have been granted. They are illegal.
By passing a bill that has fundamental changes to Obamacare the stupid Republicans henceforth become co-owners of this horrible mess. And this will allow Democrats to blame every problem, glitch and cost increase on Republican “interference”.
It is scarey how incompetent and self-destructive Republicans can be.
Let's don't give up the ship. This is speculation.
For the Democrats politics is total warfare, every moment everywhere, but the GOP it is just tactics a few months before the election.
The GOP politicians must fight the Democrats every day, but they also need to know the limits of their strength. It would take years to get back to the political strength of the Reagan era or the early Gingrich speakership.
Cruz has landed some nice punches and tied ObamaCare around the Democrat's neck. That's a good start.
Even the Democrats, Nancy Pelosi, caved on the idea of zero funding the Iraq war because she knew President Bush would win the government shutdown.
Eventually, Boehner and his cohorts will obey Dear Leader’s command to “cut it out!” and everyone will go back to the business of growing the federal government.
The GOPe Congress announces that they’re negotiating with themselves again. They’ve given advance assurance to the Senate that when it rejects this latest proposal, the House has another one ready to go that will be more palatable to socialists.
I bet Kevin pays sticker price plus when he buys a car.
What it actually is is theater that they expect you and I to buy tickets to.
We have prayed, tried to support and encourage but they cave. Because they are cowards misled by consultants and fear for their careers rather their than love of America or respect for their constituents.
possible?
He’s either playing solitaire or Go Fish. It sure ain’t poker.
I’d send them a volley.
If there is anything in this bill that allows ZeroCare to go forward in ANY form, then the House and the 'Pubbies have already caved.
Ya gotta love contemporary America - the screw jobs just keep on coming and the people who are supposed to be OUR voice in Washington seem to have developed a severe case of "selective laryngitis"!!
Great odds my butt. They hold the purse. Read what Andrew McCarthy wrote in the National review. This is stupid political theater. DEFUND IT AND KILL IT or it will the GOPs death. We can call it RinoCare.
We do need to pray for them Ann...that is so easily forgotten in this fight.
And, just as a note on this, I just watched Kevin with Chris Wallace (who is trying VERY hard to hammer R’s). Kevin did a good job. CW kept pounding away on “supposed” scenarios, and Kevin was a good advocate for us. Only after like the 3rd time of CW saying what will the HOR do if the senate sends it back did KM say we’ll send them something else and it will still delay and/or defund some of the healthcare bill.
Why would he broadcast the Repub plans???? Sounds like a loser to me.
The GOPe’s ship sank in Nov 2012.
