Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, said conservative Republican attempts to defund Obamacare will prove fruitless.
"In the United States Senate, we will not repeal or defund Obamacare. We will not. And to think we can is not rational," McCain said Thursday on The Lead with Jake Tapper.

Juan should reach across the aisle to get a veto-proof majority to kill the beast.
What this is about is awakening the people and laying the monstrosity at Obama’s feet.
It is a shame Cruz was not in the Senate 4 years ago.
That question sounds like a no brainer. He apparently isn’t i favor of defunding. Lands, I despise the old weasel.
That's exactly what is wrong with this do-nothing congress! The GOPe rolls over and plays dead!
I can't stand "Keating Five" McCain!
Sez Mr. Dementia
Uh, that would be Senator Dementia to you.
Now if that isn’t scary I don’t know what is.
Well, I guess we can put McQueeg down as a vote for 0bamacare then. Because that is what it will be.
NO ONE cares what you think.
And is forcing the Democrats to go “on the record” in support of Obamacare as we go into the off year elections also “irrational”???
Why can’t this A-hole just rot away!
McCain is such a loser. Sometimes, major strategic gains can come from even a losing fight. By taking a stand that entails political risk, the fight over Obamacare shows that most GOP members in the House and Senate — contrary to reputation and the impression they give — really are different from the Democrats and do stand for smaller government. This will help to set the policy agenda for the GOP and will energize the GOP base for 2014 and beyond.
crazier than a shithouse rat....
Whose side are you fighting for, Mr McCain?
McCain tries to shore up the crumbing ObamaCare facade for his Demmunist Party overlords.
McCain another DemoNazi!
true, but there is a lot to be said for choosing the right time to try. If a motion to strike occurs, and succeeds in removing the defund portion, you have just handed a clean CR to the president. I read earlier today a conservative writer decrying something to the effect of ‘democrats continue to patiently play chess while the republicans run around screaming and throwing checkers’. I fear only personalities will come out looking good, but on the whole conservative interests will be hurt. But, perhaps there is more gamesmanship going on behind the scenes by Cruz and co than i realize.
McPain the ultimate crap weasel. I guess he used up all his stregth and defiance many years ago.
“You can’t do anything if you don’t at least try!”
There are rules. As long as the Democrats stick together, and they are all puppets on this, then there is no chance. When the houses are split it’s always the RINOs, like McCain, defecting to their side that enable freedom stealing legislation. Republicans almost never stick together like Dems do. (Nixon could not be impeached without Republicans who followed the law rather than the party. But Obama could butcher children and eat them on Saturday Night Live and not lose a single Democrat vote to impeachment.)
The GOP can force the Dems to put themselves on record as supporting this. Then, if we can take the Senate in 2014 and hold the house, we can probably control the budget and do lots of damage to Obamacare. But we can’t get rid of it if we don’t have the votes to overcome a veto. There simply aren’t enough seats in play to allow that kind of majority.
I will be working for conservative senators and representatives in 2014. That’s all I personally can do.
I can't stand Boehner or Cantor!
They stand for nothing except self-preservation!
Cruz is doing what he said he would do and the first one he made mad is McCain who can't see past "the senate rules" and seniority.
I didn't vote for Cruz to bow down to McCain. I voted for him to take on McCain and his buddies...and Boehner and his crew!
Most in Congress these days are more concerned about their committee seats and re-election than they are about the country! I'm sick of them! I rather lose in a fight than roll over!
