A police officer shoots a dog in Central Texas and the world responds with anger, outrage, and calls for that officer to be fired.
The officer was trying to serve a warrant for someone who didn't live at the address where it happened.
Now police are taking steps to make sure something like this never happens again.
Vinny the dog looks much better than he did last month.
"It went in right here, and went through his shoulder, through his muscle, and ended up right here," James Simmons explained pointing out Vinny's injuries.
Vinny was shot June 17 when a Leander police officer tried to serve a warrant on someone that didn't live at this house.
Vinny still isn't fully recovered.
"He has some ripped muscle tissue so we have to help him recover with massage therapy," says Valerie Simmons.
Lieutenant Derral Partin says the police department has faced heavy criticism since it happened.
"I bet I've had 300 phone messages," he says.
Now the department is trying to make sure it doesn't happen again with a special training. Partin says, "It will give officers a better perspective on attacking dogs, how to make a stand, OC Spray effects, TASER effects......

A lawyer filed a claim with the city's insurance company on behalf of the Simmons family.
The family wants the city to pay about $1,500 for veterinary bills -- but it denied the claim.
The family's attorney is now planning to file a lawsuit.
The officer claimed the dog charged at him.

Could be a Common Core educated policeman ... fuzzy math with numbers .... 569 and 861 are approximately equal as long as you show your logic.
Our dog would do the same thing, but it's her way of saying "Hello" and "Let's play".
It seems to me that somebody who likes dogs could develop a “net gun” optimized for large dogs.
