I don’t need to look at some stuff from 300 years later to know that Jesus claimed equality with God. But apparently, you need to look at it to uphold your heretical position.

I draw the line at the deity of Christ. If someone calls themselves a christian and denies that Jesus is God, then they need to come up to speed on the simple historical evidence or be subject to the claim that they are a heretic.
Psalm 45 seems pretty clear to me:
1 My heart is stirred by a noble theme
as I recite my verses for the king;
my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.
2 You are the most excellent of men
and your lips have been anointed with grace,
since God has blessed you forever."
This, as it says, is a wedding song, full of extravagant praise for the beloved king.
The writer of Hebrews (Paul?) gives that same praise to his king, Jesus Christ.

Jesus cites Psalm 82:6 as a reason why he should not be called a blasphemer, just because he said he is God's Son.

***Jesus had been doing this in his runup to Jerusalem, He simply did exactly the same thing when He was put on trial and responded to the question of His identity with a straightforward claim of equality with God, yet again.
Let's not forget that two hundred years ago the majority of ALL humanity believed in a Creator. Those who didn't were on the fringes pretty much and belief in God was a given. It's no wonder, then, that the founders didn't see the need to expound upon their belief in God and the mentions of Him are almost matter-of-fact. "We hold these truths to be self-evident" they said, indicating that belief in God was something everyone accepted.
You ask if I want to take "both sides". I don't see that there really are two opposing sides. Kevmo correctly states that God will damn those who do not believe the truth. Jesus said we would "die in our sins" if we believed not that he was who he claimed to be. What you call "murderous hatred" is pointless hyperbole - nobody is advocating an inquisition. But your belief should not be an excuse for condemning to hell as “God Damned Heretics” people whose beliefs are actually closer to the original than yours.

So you either view Jesus Christ as a mere human, a demigod or a ‘lower’ god than the Father. From John 1 we know the Son of God as the One where “all things were made.” So obviously you don’t see the Son of God as a mere human. That leaves a demigod or a god for you to choose from who created all things.

Many posters enumerating their heresies as truth do not even realize whom they serve as they seek to murder the souls of those who have yet to acknowledge that Jesus Is The Lord.

Jesus clearly and unequivocally named himself “Son of God”, but never claimed to be God Himself, not even in Gospel Writer John’s accounting.
