Too bad they don’t have a photo of the ‘69 Camaro.
Wonder if it’s restorable.

A few years ago a car was pulled up from one of the lakes around Madison, Wisconsin, with two young guys who’d been missing for 45 years. At least some closure for those families, and hopefully for these families, too.

Trooper George Hoyle, who was driving the boat that located the vehicles Sept. 10, told the Daily News that the two cars were side by side in about 12 feet of water.

There must have been some problem with the road to the lake, or markings.

They were last seen on Nov. 20, 1970, in Jimmy's car — a blue 1969 Camaro,

In 1973, I worked for Beckham and Custer County as a state trooper, and I heard rumors that sometime in the early '60s there were two or three people in a car, and they were last seen in Canute," Peoples told the Elk City newspaper. "They were headed for Foss Lake and never seen again."

Two cases, separated by nearly 10 years, yet the cars end up side-by-side. What's the common factor?

Many lakes across the country should have old boat ramps into lakes checked for dumped cars. It’s real easy to roll one into the lake never to be seen again.....

“Forensic Files” had an episode on two kids who disappeared. I can’t remember the state but it involved farming or ranching. The boy was on the phone with his mom when he suddenly stopped. Police searched, but could find nothing.

Weeks went by and then a farmer called in with the sad news. He was pumping out a sludge pond and found the couple’s car. The boy evidently was trying to make a short cut and ran into the pond. They never explained why the kids couldn’t get out (open top or Jeep type vehicle) but they were pretty well dissolved as the pond was toxic with manure or some such.

Helluva way to go.

That's an active launching ramp, with a road running straight into it. No warning signs, rumble strips or pavement markings are visible on Google Earth.

To have a look for yourself, just enter (or COPY / PASTE) these coordinates

35.535505° -99.194569°

into the "fly to" field on Google Earth, and click the "go to" icon at the right.

That marina cove is obviously a favorite crappie fishing area: look at all the (cedar?) trees sunk in the two lateral sub-coves as fish attractors...

My guess is that the two cars were somewhere between the boat sitting perpendicular to the ramp in the May 9, 2012 overflight image, and the end of the ramp, itself.

There is also a cluster of man-made debris (sunken boathouse?) not far to the ENE of the ramp end, as well.

~~~~~~~
Macabre thought: Those auto hulks probably were fish attractors as well...
Scanning Google Earth of Foss Lake Reservoir where they pulled these two cars out, near the southern end of the dam and E.N.E. of the boat ramp, there appears to be two dark shadows side-by side in the water just off small point, There's also an old, unmaintained dirt road that looks like it may have gone all the way out to the end of that point. My guess is both of these cars drove off the point in the dark or where pushed off by another vehicle. The windows are opened or broken... None of the occupants tried to escape? Or where they dead when the cars were sent over the edge?
I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. -Wb
