The information below about the definition of the 2nd Amendment on the White House website and also on the Senate website there is interesting verbage in the right margin.

Look at what whitehouse.gov says the second amendment is

the whitehouse site shortens the second amendment to: citizens have the right to bear arms, and totally disregards the rest involving militia.

From this page
http://www.whitehouse.gov/our-government/the-constitution

THEN if you click “read the full text of the constitution” it goes here:
http://www.senate.gov/civics/constitution_item/constitution.htm

On that page “Amendments” goes here (farther down page)
http://www.senate.gov/civics/constitution_item/constitution.htm#amendments

and says this for second amendment:

“Amendment II (1791)
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

WHAT IS WEIRD IS OFF TO THE RIGHT OF THAT IT SAYS THIS

“Whether this provision protects the individual’s right to own firearms or whether it deals only with the collective right of the people to arm and maintain a militia has long been debated.”

Sheesh...they cant even get that right...

there are only tow articles on the bill of rights that use both of the terms “state” and “the people”....

The 2nd and 10th articles...

And the liberals ignore both of them...

the 2nd article affirms TWO rights....

the right of a “state” to raise a militia...

the right of “the people” to keep and bear arms...

Because BOTH are necessary to the security of a free state...

“Whether this provision protects the individual’s right to own firearms or whether it deals only with the collective right of the people to arm and maintain a militia has long been debated.”

And it was settled in DC v. Heller, five years ago.

This textbook is the "2nd revised edition", published in 2010.

There's no excuse for this, other than a blatant attempt to rewrite history.
